The word missing from all this is "allegedly". We have no proof they were. The fact Notch backtracked and his penchant for dramatics on Twitter make me inclined to believe Someone took some close to the knuckle British humour the wrong way.
Our (British) town has a shop that gets in imports like this. We tried one of these and it was dreadful! Sickly yet almost tasteless. I don't know where they hype comes from at all.
