Timecrimes Director Brings You Cinema's Finest Take On Philip K. Dick
We've all seen our share of movies adapting Philip K. Dick stories, but how many of them claim to be presented by Dick himself? And how many are set in Madrid (presenting itself as Uranus, in turn presenting itself as Madrid) - with Palmer Eldrich as the hero? From the opening title sequence of Codigo 7, a trilogy of movies "presented" by Dick and directed by Timecrimes' Nacho Vigalondo, you know you're in for something special. What is real? What is human? And what does it take to make a good adaptation of a Philip K. Dick story, anyway? More » -

Martin & Lewis Impersonators Slaughter Alien Hordes in New Comic Book
Everyone remembers the heyday of Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis, but how many of us remember the cheap imitation duo of Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo? While Dino and Jerry got the radio shows, the magazine covers, and the hit movies, Mitchell and Petrillo got a co-starring role with Bela Lugosi...and a brutal battle with attacking alien forces. We've skewered you with the Dead Space trailer cut by James Han, peppered you with details about the Community Event at Electronic Arts Redwood Shores, and slow-basted you in details about the game's forward-thinking dynamic lighting mesh. But apart from the briefest of mentions, we've held off on serving up our impressions of Dead Space as a video game...until now. Under the jump, our impressions of the gameplay of Dead Space (including what EA doesn't want you to know), how the game measures up against the knowledge and aspirations of its wicked-smart design team, and why it can be so hard to make the case for video games as art. How Dead Space Blinded Us With Science, Hit Us With Technology
The developers of upcoming sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space are more than happy to show you the schematics they've worked up for protagonist Isaac Clarke's ore cutter, or how a handheld graviton accelerator might work in the far future, but it was the practicalities of the game's dynamic lighting system that blinded us with science. Under the jump, concepts that boggled the minds of people (me, mainly) used to getting their science served up with generous portions of fiction, such as the mysteries of ambient occlusion and how many milliseconds of the GPU Dead Space can allocate to bringing the awesome.
