Gev commented on High Gas Prices Transform Geo Metros From Weak To Chic,
at 7:20 AM on May 21
@DashTheHand: Not to mention the fact that a 16-17 year old econobox is probably not going to be the most well-maintained car in the vehicle universe.
I'm guessing it won't last as long as the Prius would and that over the period of time you'd own the Prius you'll spend close to or more than the purchase price of the Prius in repairs and replacing the Metro with another one when it has a breakdown that's too expensive to repair.
And yeah, I'd never want to get hit by anything while driving one.

@meeroom: I'd settle for the sandwich at this point but that ice cream sounds tasty.
There are occasionally some things I miss about New England.

Songbird looks kind of promising if you're one of those people who likes a big media player that does a ton of stuff, but why is it that they felt the need to rip off the look and feel of iTunes?
For those looking for a small player that pretty much just plays music files, Quinnware's Quintessential Player is also a decent choice.

@Womblebug: Some CoinStar machines will give out "Gift Cards" (for lack of a better term) to Amazon and other online retailers with no cut.
At least I think they still do this.

@SuffolkHouse: I for one completely dislike the direction this site is taking.
When I first stumbled across this site, it was refreshing to find a website that was for the most part even-handed towards corporations and pro-consumer.
To use a really crappy analogy, it used to do for consumers what a decent gaming site does for gamers: Provide tips, tricks, and sometimes outright cheats to make buying things or dealing with companies a lot easier.
It did it all without that ridiculous "I don't care if I need it, I can get it at a discount" crap that you have on sites like Fatwallet.
Now it just seems to be nothing but sensationalism, misleading headlines, and anti-corporation rhetoric.

@amorphous: The only problem I've had is that occasionally there's some stuff on Gizmodo that makes it through the filters but other than that all of the Gawker blogs (as well as most other sites) have been delightfully crap-free.

Gev commented on Best Buy: Only $1700 For This Awesome Broken Computer,
at 8:18 AM on Apr 14
@unravel: It looks like it's an all-in-one type thing with a back panel that's become dislodged.
Even if it's actually broken, given that the part is probably just to keep cords looking neat it's hardly justification for an 80% discount or whatever it is you think you deserve.
Why do people buy anything other than DVDs or games from Best Buy anyway?

Gev commented on Life In A Subprime Ghost Town: Not Paying The Mortgage Feels "Great!",
at 7:54 AM on Apr 10
@katylostherart: Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should.
With a mortgage it's easy enough to do some research and find out what your payments are going to be and decide from that whether or not you can afford to take on the loan.
Relying on the hope that you can unload the house for a profit before the payments on your ARM explode is just a recipe for disaster.
