Princess of Mehs?
Speaking only for myself, while I am quite interested in seeing John Carter, all my SF geek instincts are muchly confused. I want to be all up in (four) arms when Disney messes with the title of the film, hints about all the wacky jokes they've added, making Green Men with tusks that don't obscure dialog, too much wardrobe... "Those corporate rodent BASTARDS!" I shriek, adopting the classic pose, "They're doing untoward things to my childhood!"

But wait, it's more like my grandfather's childhood (possibly, I could get a ouija board and ask him). I read the all the books in my early adolescence, attracted by the venerable pedigree and Michael Whelan's sumptous cover art on the Del Rey mass market editions. The prose is dated and dry, a real slog even to a older and experienced reader. Fandom is permeated with a century of references to Barsoom and reading the canon is a rite of passage, but I don't think many folks re-read them and geek over the details except for snob appeal.

I'm excited by the return to Planetary Romance and that it may be accepted by wider audiences. Maybe we'll see good non-campy versions of Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers without roller-disco. Maybe SF fans don't want the dusty, half-remembered icons gussied up for the masses. Hooray for airships and swashbuckling with monsters brought to you... by The Mouse.
CONFUSED.

I for one am disguising my feelings with a studied indifference but will be there on opening day.

I've read The Mirage. The UAS is not a wholly secular state, it is based on Islamic principles, but is more tolerant and pluralist than any Middle Eastern nation in our world with the exception of possibly Turkey. It's a great book of allohistory and examinations of human nature.
I suspect China MiƩville was inspired by Hans when he created the hotchi of Bas-Lag.
As commented below, Unca Harlan did a handful of stories about the Earth-Kyba wars, "Demon With a Glass Hand" is part of that cycle. There are also further exploits of Vic and Blood. There are two graphic novels adapted from this stuff.

Woof, that's right! I have both of those Somewhere in my stacks. Can't remember where, maybe I'm Over the Hill.
Ants taste very peppery. I haven't eaten mass quantities, but some Pepcid might be needed. Chimps will seek out certain plants to counter the agita they get from chowing down on an anthill.
Good call! These were adapted by Ken Steacy and collected in a graphic novel called Night and the Enemy.

It's a PKD/Rudy Rucker crossover!
I consider Powers to be a fantasy writer and a damn fine one at that. Last Call has two sequels; Expiration Date, and Earthquake Weather.
Except for Fool and Sacre Bleu (coming out this April) ALL of Chris' books are set in the same universe and his characters show up over and over.
But did he fall into that river or was he pushed? I bet that shifty pterodactyl knows something. Hmm...

Constable, gather everybody in the parlor in half an hour. I'm going to take another look at Col. Iguanodon's last will and testament.

The most primitive form of humor
Imagine an emergency splashdown off the coast of Somalia. Pirates vs Astronauts!
Nope. Laika's capsule went through a wormhole then touched down gently in the Pleistocene tundra. She lived a long and happy life chasing saber-toothed squirrels.
io9 should be ashamed of belittling this brave scientist who isn't afraid to expose the truth. These jokes support the Conspiracy perpetrated by the military-industrial complex and the reptiliods like "Queen" Elizabeth II. They know that the existence of Back Flaps will bring down their reign and usher in a Age of Peace and Galactic Brotherhood as foretold by the ascended dolphin masters of Tibet.
WAKE UP SHEEPLE!! DO NOT FEAR THE TRUTH!!!!!

Are you sure that's not just a photo of the world's largest dime?
Don't you mean the first non-Brazilian couple to make a music video in space?
Not the pairing I'd have expected but I am looking forward to June for this.
