@Blaaargh: Probably because that would be stupid. If this was a Norwegian film filled with Americans, should they all have to speak Norwegian? No. That would be equally stupid.
If you really hate subtitles that much I'm sure there'll be a dub on the dvd/blu-ray, because lord knows theres a lot of illiterate Americans.
@dennis636223: Side note, Firefly is considered to be one of the greatest sci-fi series of all time, Serenity is considered to be one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time, and Time magazine called Buffy one of the top 100 television shows of all time. So its not like the guy doesn't have credentials.
Gorram it I need a Blu-Ray player right now. That was my favorite movie of the year, I want more special features!
And I said favorite, not best. Sure District 9 and all that stuff was better, but this was pretty damn entertaining.
"The clip was strangely free of any sense the Curtis family might not escape the city, and instead played like a series of visually interesting anecdotes about their survival. So, unless Emmerich's claims of a compelling plot prove true, I suspect 2012 might be little more than a very pretty, accident-prone face."
Does any of this really surprise anyone? There has been zero suspense or human connection in any of his previous films, just lots of shit blowing up.
@crashedpc /sarcasm: Yes, it was called Game of Death. In fact, there's an entire genre of Bruceploitation movies that use clips and semi-lookalikes (usually calling themselves names like Bruce Li) including a sequel to the already exploitative Game of Death and a movie where Bruce teams up with James Bond and Popeye, among others, to fight Dracula and a legion of zombies in hell. Seriously.
@Jesse Astle: See, I actually think he's an amazing director. His real problem is that with each film he makes, his writing skills lessen. So if somebody else just wrote his movies, I think he could become one of the top directors in the country.
As a semi-but-not-really fan of TNG, I thought that episode was great. It wasn't the most thought-provoking, but for what it was is was highly entertaining.
@Important Irrelevance: I'd be shocked if any io9 readers didn't already know. Plus, the trailer shows a mid-city explosion while talking about the possibility of a nuclear war. I haven't seen the movie or read any spoilers, but the puzzle was quite easy to piece together.
