Is that now the most popular theory in Star Trek fandom, that there are three different universes describing
1. ST:ENT/ST:TOS/ST:TNG/ST:DS9/ST:VOY
2. ST:ENT/ST:2009movie
3. the Mirror episodes
(OriginalSeries-Earth, Movie-Earth, Mirror-Earth or whatever they are called)?
If it is a "parallel timeline" does Star Trek fandom also accept it as a "parallel universe"?
What about ST:TNG Yesterday's Enterprise - that's a different kind of time travel from the Star Trek 2009 Movie?
The other finales - well, #1 was entirely appropriate (Daleks have always been THE Monster of DW), #2 was a great Dalek surprise. (Plus, Daleks vs. Cybes. Cool.)
#4 was as much about the last remaining DW Icon to bring back - Davros - as much as his Daleks.
The main point of the article is that RTD has brought DW back to the centre of UK culture.
It's even more popular now in the UK than it was in the Tom Baker years possibly.
Blood Snow - vacation in snowy mountain cabin with zombies. Featuring Ando and Tiffany.
Dead Snow (Død snø) - vacaction in snowy mountain cabin with Norwegian Nazi zombies.
"Except the last episode of every season"?
Hmmm.
(I'm going to exclude the Specials from this summary, just focus on the yearly 13 episodes of the four seasons. I suppose you are perhaps suggesting though that the final episode of the final Specials will be an "exception" too.)
Nu-Season 1.
Finale: Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways.
Populist pop culture satire/obscure Dalek TV21 Comic references Mash-up. GENIUS.
Nu-Season 2.
Finale: Army of Ghosts/Doomsday.
Great finale. The opening episode New Earth was the nadir of the season.
Nu-Season 3.
Finale: Utopia/The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords
Well, in the last episode the Miniature Doctor and the Face of WTF were not very good, however overall the finale was excellent. This season's episode Evolution of the Daleks is the nadir of Nu-Who so far though.
Nu-Season 4.
Finale: The Stolen Earth/Journey's End.
Like The Five Doctors but actually good. Perhaps the best Nu-Season in that majority of eps were well above-par.
Any of the Nu-Seasons can stand comparison to Classic Seasons 5 or 14 or 18 (the best of Classic Doctor Who.)
Hooray for RTD!
Remember the tagline...
WATER ALWAYS WINS
I'm excited for Halloween-time!
Also - no humility is required from RTD.
Nu-Who has been pure brilliance so far.
"It easily stands up with Caves of Androzani and Midnight as one of the greats."
Yup.
It's a Doctor Who Fan Consensus All Time Great - along with Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, City of Death, The Caves of Androzani, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Blink.
What was perhaps most extraordinary about No Heroics was that it was on an ITV channel.
BBC2 or perhaps Channel 4 would have been the channel that you would have expected this programme to be on (considering the edgy comedy and "niche" subject of Superheroes.)
ITV2 is one of the new digital channels so I guess ITV is trying to branch out in the digital era.
Thanks for reminding me about Towel Day!
(I read the comment about "six 0s in her name" and thought "But Bloodgod has three Os"?!)
Also, I just read the news yesterday that Terminator TSCC is cancelled and that made me very sad indeed.
There are going to be "three brand new Torchwood radio plays" on BBC Radio4 which will be "broadcast in advance" of Torchwood Season Three (says bbc.co.uk), so maybe the airdates of those (when announced) will give another clue?
More Torchwood stuff: [planetzogblog.wordpress.com]
The BBC hasn't confirmed anything, so maybe it will be July for the UK airdate, but there was a (now removed) paragraph on the Watch channel website which said of 15th June to 19th June - "fans can enjoy brand-new Torchwood on BBC One, as well as classic Torchwood on Watch straight afterwards."
Which makes sense if there is a preview on 12th June.
(Note that the finale has not aired on the BBC yet, but if the previous 24 episodes this UK viewer has watched are anything to go by, the analogy should still be appropriate.)
There are many Time Lord/Human romances in Classic Doctor Who! Since 1963, the flirting has never stopped.
E.g.
The First Doctor & Cameca,
Ms Susan Who & David Campbell,
Master No. One & Queen Galleia of Atlantis,
The Third Doctor & Jo Grant,
Andred & Leela,
and so on.
"although I suppose maybe he's supposed to be standing in for all of us nerds"
He had read Doctor Who and the Giant Robot, so - yes.
You said "can we get back to the way it was when a 900+ year old didn't flirt with every sentient being"?
When I reviewed this story I noted "The banter between the Lady and the Lord was great (reminiscent of Seasons 16 and 17 and E-Space with added spiciness)": [tinyurl.com]
Meaning all this talk about Lords and Ladies was a callback to when the Time Lord was with a Time Lady.
Watch State of Decay (E-Space, Season 18) and note - they are both flirting all the way through the story.
"I dream of a world with a new Who-based episode every week."
Last year was still fairly impressive.
2008 was 39/52 full of Who e.g. 3/4 of the year had weekly episodes.
Torchwood Season 2 then
Nu-Who Season 4 then
3 month gap then
SJA Season 2 then
Nu-Who Xmas Special.
From 2007...
Mister Saxon = Master No. Six.
From 1981...
Tremas = Master.
