Really like this movie a lot. Its got particular off beat style to it, and the odd nature of the trials is particularly interesting. Definitely worth watching if you want something different.
The completion rate on the game is pretty good tbh. Gamers as a whole are generally terrible at finishing titles.
@Ydnam: Yeah I'm wondering the same. 6 seasons sounds like a typo.
Cute. Valve could make a serious killing shipping a voiced turret plushie (or even a plastic one). But yeah 'I'm different!!' would be essential.
@kickingvegas: The indoor barbecue in her flat always cracks me up ;)
A company owned by Rupert Murdoch no less. Says it all really.
@cyclops2500: I see no point in crying over spilt milk (like say Firefly getting cancelled for example, what's done is done). However I think identifying/understanding where something went wrong can be beneficial, not so much from the perspective of bemoaning the decisions, more articulating the problems in the hope that others can learn from them in future and build a better mousetrap.
@cyclops2500: For the ending to have disappointed me, I'd actually have to given a shit by that point. BSG started off so fresh and invigorating, but around about when there was the limp dick stand off between the Pegasus & Galatica the rot started to set in. Suddenly the, writers whom up to then had seemed so daring and provocative suddenly started playing safe, especially with the main cast.

The entire 2 seasons that follow is just a litany of side characters being liquidated to the petty gods of drama (killing bit part characters is so brave) whilst main cast are constantly pulled back from the brink by assorted Deus Ex machina, to the point where by the shows conclusion there are more significant cylons than humans in the storyline.

The setup from early on was that Roslin was going to die, but instead of letting her pass like they should have (and having people deal with that), they bring her back with the magic baby blood, which of course they then have to explain away.

Also what about after they make Tyrol a Cylon (the final 5 idea was just plain awful) and the whole pathetic ret-conning of Cally (who let's face it doted on him), apparently having hot dog service her behind his back, in order to explain away her baby.

Shit like that made the LOST writers look good tbh.
@DPeezy: So let me get this right. BSG was awesome, and if you don't appreciate it somehow you're a raging nerd and a child, yes? Hmm....
I think a lot of these problems come down to the nature of the beast. However it's important to recognise that the beast that created the Wire is a different beast (Cable) from the one that created Lost (Network Television). With The Wire the shows producers knew they had a season of episodes to work with, so they could afford to take their time and weave a complicated fabric. The most common thing anyone says when introducing a friend to the show is 'it starts off slow, but it builds up, give it a couple of episodes and you'll see'.

Lost on the other hand could very well have found itself cancelled 4 episodes in if it hadn't managed to knock it out of the park with the pilot episode, and hook people in, and then keep them hooked through a combination of mystery, character stories & soap opera. The main problem for Lost as a series though was really a case of the shows producers not knowing when it was going to end (we'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they had a clear ending in sight, though I must admit I remain sceptical on that front), and introducing too many conflicting hooks and nonsensical twists that undermined the premise.
Sims 3 but without the pixelation and plum bob. Woo hoo sessions ftw. Solo woohoo sessions and toilet visits not so much.....
@drmaybe: I'd say the distinction lies in one being acutely concious of an audience and the other merely writing the tale they wish to tell. Personally I'm interested in good stories not the flourishes of authors.
@sometingwong: Full of all the nutrients a human body needs then (as my creepy biologist friends would point out). ;)
@realityengine: lmao. Indeed a hideous fate for many a Hollywood starlet I expect .
@drmaybe: Did I say otherwise?
@lakedesire: I think throwing his blind support behind Michael Moorcocks 'epic pooh' attack on Tolkien Lewis, etc kind of does the trick for me. Don't get me wrong I'm no ardent fan of LotR etc, but that whole essay reads like pure sour grapes by Moorcock (an author who though still alive, actual works are hard to find on a bookstore shelf these days, vs those of his dead targets). Sometimes a story is just a story, it doesn't need to be political, nor is it necessary to assess it as such.
@Pratyeka: I suspect much like the earring 'China' is an affectation.
