I think Annalee's original point about the crew of TNG acting as role models is a huge one for me as well. The way Picard and Riker led with strength, respect, openness, and humor has been a huge influence on me when I've had the chance to be in leadership positions. Star Trek is about striving for the future, striving towards perfection, not just in terms of technology and social issues, but also in terms of what sort of people we can become.
It's actually kind of interesting that, although they claim "men who were given a placebo spray barely improved," the placebo effect alone nearly doubled these guys' times, from 36 seconds to 66.
What about "kamehameha," the word they shout when doing the DB version of a hadouken? I was totally wigged out to learn that Kamehameha I was actually the first king of Hawaii. Any idea why Toriyama stole his name?
Whatever happens, I pretty much trust that Obama, as an avowed Trekkie, isn't gonna screw this up. Poor NASA, always batted around by politicians-- we need to refigure its place in the American public view, ie show America how awesome space is, and then we can get back to space travel.
I have to say the best moment is at 1:09, when the woman in the foreground realizes she can't stay focused on the plot, and gets distracted by the dancers behind her-- just like the audience!
