@Dween: The X-Files was on FOX for many, many more seasons than it needed to be on. Also, Fringe, which happens to be pretty good also... on FOX. And, yes, FOX picked up Firefly which wouldn't have seen the light of day otherwise. FOX actually learned from the Firefly experience (as well as Arrested Development) and gave both TSCC and Dollhouse two seasons that the shows didn't deserve based on their ratings. What are they supposed to do, cancel American Idol and run all the sci-fi show in the middle of the week? It's business.
The show improved greatly towards the second half of the first season, but audiences had to put up with SIX awfully boring episodes before getting a payoff. That is just stupid TV production. Fox cut Whedon a lot of slack right there. Admittedly, the network refused to air the best episode in the series (Epitaph), but the show is just not delivering. The quality of the show is inconsistent, the dialogue is mediocre, and only few characters (who aren't even regulars) are compelling. TV is business, not a place to get experimental, and Whedon should sure as hell know that by now. Let's get a better sci-fi show in that spot!
@JRD_2: Indeed, I don't get the adulation either. I was anxious to see this after reading rave after rave, and then found it not only boring but simple. Maybe the American treatment might actually be a good thing.
Thanks for this! I'll have to swing by the museum this weekend to check it out.
Well, done Annalee. This was a great and interesting read for this city dweller. Cities hold so many dreams, so many nightmares. Thanks for this one.
Watched this last night and actually liked it a lot. The action sequences in the first half were breathtaking. I agree with an earlier commenter who pointed out the mistake in revealing that Marcus is not human in the trailers. Still, I felt for him, and liked his simple redemption arc -- which also meant less time was devoted to having Bale on screen. I agree with Charlie Jane that he seemed cranky the entire movie, but I'd assume someone who lost an entire crew of fellow fighters during the first 15 minutes of the film would be rather angry at life in general, so that makes sense for John Connor.
@V.I.N.CENT: Actually, we've previously seen Kate be totally incapable of keeping information to herself EVEN WHEN ASKED to do that very thing explicitly. I seem to remember this happening in the days when Jack was the only lostie who trusted Juliet and Sayid asked her to keep something from him because he'd then share it with Juliet. I mean, it took her like 10 minutes. Seriously. She is maid of failure.
@LeopoldNestor: TERRIBLE PARENT ALERT! Leaving a child alone, in a motel room, with a clearly unlocked door is something only Kate Austin would do.
@Globe*99: I was interested by the fact that they communicated with Richard to let him know some Dharma folk wanted to talk to him... how? Did anyone see any walkies? Did I completely gloss over them calling it in?
The time travel converstaion was The. Best. It was almost lifted from online fan forums!

This episode went a long way in helping mitigate my abiding hate of Kate. Her admiting her selfishness in keeping Aaron was a great moment and I now hope she gets to find Claire, and closure. I hate to admit it, but that "Bye, baby" was heartbreaking.

I hope Sayid has run into Rose and Bernard. And Vincent. Seriously, is he feeding on jungle vermit at this point?

@Srynerson: Yes and no. Yes because I understand that recriminations help no one and Jack has said over and over, "Dude, Locke told us you needed help." However, I understand her frustration and fear at having them back to disrupt the little calm she's cobbled together over the last 3 years. I also understand why she would wish to sneak a peek at the doctor's goods. Hee.
@dead_red_eyes: I'm sure Ben was just shot and not killed. Still shocked the snot outta me.
OK. You they got me with Yoda as Van Gogh.
I will employ the word "frak" however many frakking times I frakking please, frakyouverymuch.
@Heepcak: The great thing about being a published author is that you can speak from the grave.
I'm on board with Sawyer/Juliet as well. Doesn't make me want to kill my TV like Kate and Sawyer or Jack. It's much better written, much more stable and caring, and it actually got a pretty nice reception from viewers and most critics. As far as I've been able to tell, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
"Go, Ghostfacers! We face the ghosts when others will not." Awesome.
If they keep having people knock the snot out of Ben each episode, I'll be a very happy camper.
Nah, he's right. I don't need morality in my science. Solid ethics will suffice.
Kill Juliet? What show have you been watching, Meredith? Oh, you mean, now that everyone likes her Darlton will knock her out.
