The Experts Speak]]> I understand that people want to protect their products image...but design patents? Thats not what patents were made for! Patents are for things like mechanisms and inventions. A design is neither of those. Hell, anyone can come up with a design. This is the same thing with software patents. Both things are inherently un-patentable because the process to which the "property" was conceived will invariably be the same for everyone. Youll get slight differentiations, but those are just peoples own personality influencing the design.

Im sorry,patent law is a very contentious topic for me. Every time I hear a lawyer extending the role of the patent into areas it was never meant to go, I feel the urge to scream. I mean, patent clerks are usually engineers and scientists themselves. They should be the ones saying what is patentable or not, not Johnny Lawyer, who couldnt differentiate a polynomial equation if his life depended on it.
