@hdgotham: It's not you. I really liked most of season four too. With season four, Heroes vastly improved from its crap seasons, but that's not enough for most people now. For those of us who watched Heroes on Netflix/DVD instead of live, the bad episodes lasted maybe a week. For the people who watched them live, it lasted two years. If I had to sit through two years worth of horrible television, I would be really pissed off too.
I see you've found the plot synopsis for the next Heroes volume Annalee. I think you'll need drinks a bit more stronger this time around if you hope to make it to the end...
But wait, if the world is destroyed by the LHC, none of the other things can happen. So that means the LHC is a good thing! I mean, which is worse: Heroes getting renewed (which it most likely will with the ratings disaster at NBC; plus I read that Tim Kring is "fully expecting" a fifth season) or the world being destroyed?
This review was so spot on that I got chills when the 70's interview of George ran. I also watched his TNG movie reviews, and they're equally hilarious. I didn't realize how stupid First Contact was until I watched it, but I still like it as a fun summer movie.
Last season of BSG. It answered almost NOTHING that we were presented with throughout most of the series, and then it gave us more mysteries that it didn't answer. What a crappy end to an otherwise great TV series.
Am I just braindead or something? I actually enjoy this season of Heroes, and the last volume was pretty good.
Honestly, I think people are still hating on Heroes only because it didn't live up to what they thought it would be back in the day. I can understand that for volumes 2 and 3 (those were just awful), but the last two aren't acutaly as horrible as people say.
I watched Heroes over the summer by starting with volume 1, skipped to volume 4 because I heard volumes 2 & 3 were awful, and then watched 2 & 3. Guess what? I don't hate Heroes! But millions of viewers didn't have this luxury during their airing, and if I had to sit through trash week after week for over a year like they did, I would most likely hate Heroes too.
@ShadowStaarr: The 80's weren't that great either. Have fun re-buying records after you play them 20-40 times. You might want to keep that TV-guide too, since VHS and Betamax players were easily $300+ and the movies themselves were between $30-$60. The tapes also wore out with play like records too. You get stuck in the middle of nowhere when your car breaks down? Hopefully you can hitchhike, or it's gonna be a long walk to the next town. You need brush up on DOS if you want to even attempt to use a computer, and internet speeds were about 2.4 kbit/s with dial-up if you were lucky enough to have it.
That was just a short list. Trust me, every decade has its ups and downs. It's just that nostalgia forgets the bad parts and only remembers the good parts.
I think us wanting to relive the past so much is part of the immediate post-9/11 world we're still living in. We want to go back to times where there were clearly defined goods and evils in the world, with the USSR/Communism being the bad guys and USA/Capitalism being the good guys. Since the collapse of the USSR, many other countries now play a bigger role in the world. China is more powerful than ever, Iran and North Korea are working to get nuclear weapons, Russia is trying to become a super power again, and various terror groups with members around the world could attack at any moment.
Many people also feel like the US is not doing the right thing with things like the War on Terror and the PATRIOT act. These things were instigated in the year following 9/11 to protect the US from from future terrorist attacks, but many people feel we don't these anymore.
Another thing is this economy we're in. TV and movie studios want to play it safe. Investing in original ideas is risky, and you could waste tons of money on it if it fails. So they revisit many past franchises to play on people's nostalgia. Look at how well Transformers 2, Star Trek, and G.I. Joe did. Nostalgia gets you big bucks, and people will eat it up and ask for more. Win/win.
@cletar: Good point. The Abyss wasn't very good, and Titanic wasn't very good either. Plus the success of Titanic lead to Pearl Harbor, so god forbid what kind of crap comes from Avatar if it's a huge success. #avatar
Ballard oogling over the mind-wipe chair and the last Nate/Echo interaction at the end were definitely the best parts of the episode. This episode was a bit of a let down from last episode, but I still thought it was good.
There's still the chance that ratings could increase when all of the shows have premiered. Dollhouse went up against the season premier of Medium with Ghost Wisperer being the lead-in.
But if they don't do something, this will be Dollhouse's last season.
Well, nice to see that the season premier contains everything I love and hate about the show. I'll still watch every episode though, just because I know there's a treasure trove of awesomeness on the horizon.
