That must have been a long time ago- I take the TGV from Nice to Paris and it runs at full speed between Lyon and Paris. Between Lyon and Nice it is slower (much slower on the coast) due to line quality issues and lots of curved track between mountains and sea. Superstitious farmers, not so much.
