<![CDATA[Nephus commented on You Got Hurt While Gaming?]]> I severely twisted an ankle while playing DDR. Limped for 3 days.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on Question of the Day: Do You Prefer an Electric or Manual Shaver?]]> I voted straight razor because I've used one, but lately I've been using an antique Gillette single blade razor. Buying a pack of blades for $2 beats the heck out of today's cartridge razors and their prices.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on US Army Sargeant Volunteers Unit to be First Colonial Marines]]> Well, that's basically the point I logged in to make, but Brock beat me to it.

No one is talking about sending armed soldiers, just people that are experienced with living in extreme conditions with none of the comforts we take for granted. Throw your average person on a mission like that and then you'd have an outbreak of...

SPACE MADNESS!!!

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on BitRipper Converts DVDs to AVIs in One Click]]> Well, all bitripper does for me is show a progress bar for half a second and then crash. How useful.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on Fix Your Achy Body by Walking Barefoot]]> Oh, and another thing for all those talking about arch support being a necessity. Of course it's a necessity, you've never strengthened your arches enough to support themselves!

I wouldn't expect that I could go out and run a marathon without feeling some severe pain right now because I don't run. Just as I would have to go through some training (which would not be painless) to get in that sort of shape, your arches need training as well. I'm sorry to say that doesn't happen in an hour walk along a beach every year on vacation.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on Fix Your Achy Body by Walking Barefoot]]> Our ancestors did just fine barefoot for thousands of years before shoes were invented. Guess no one told them they couldn't do that.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on Hands On With Super Famicom Wii Controller]]> Honesty, my favorites are the SNES, Dreamcast, and the dreamcast knockoffs for the 360. I have long fingers, so using the Dual Shock controllers cause me to almost dislocate my thumbs to use them. I can't stand the playstation for that reason. Any console that physically hurts to play is out in my book.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented]]> You can also go to history, and recently closed tabs. That way you can open a tab you closed a while back but suddenly need again.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented]]> The "stopping power" I'm referring to is the old FBI single round study. Hey, if loads of tax dollars were wasted doing the research, might as well use it. The simple fact is, yes, a 22 can kill anything... over a period of time. A clip full of 9mm is probably going to kill anything that's trying to kill you, but it's not going to stop it instantly with the same percentage as a larger caliber. That few minutes between impact and incapacitation is enough to get your leg chewed off by something rather nasty.

As for everyone else...
Call me crazy, but I'm not going to hope the rabid dog I encounter while jogging holds to the same social values I do, I'm going to shoot it. I have scars from a dog attack that happened to me when I was quite young, and it took 3 men to get that dog off of me and keep it off me, including hitting it repeatedly with 2x4s that were on hand. Talking nicely to it or hoping it's vegan doesn't exactly improve your life expectancy. Coyotes are also a problem as my city expands into their territory. Again, talking nicely to it isn't going to help, but a gun of a large enough caliber to make a difference could save your life. I hope none of you nay sayers ever find yourself in that situation, but if you ever do, I'm sure you'll be quickly rethinking just how valuable a firearm is.

The fact that it also works for predators of the 2 legged variety is all fine and good, but there are better ways to handle those situations.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented]]> Although the Glock is nice, 9mm really doesn't have any stopping power. Any caliber that doesn't start with a 4 is pretty much useless for survival, which seems to be what this setup is geared towards.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on We want to see your "Go Bag"]]> Well, as far as a survival bag, I've always heard those called Bug Out Bags (BOB), for those times when you're forced to "bug out" which is a military term for retreating VERY quickly. A go bag is more of a travel thing. I'm working on a couple Go Bags myself, one for hiking/kayaking, and one for school and other stuff (with the addition or subtraction of books). Unfortunately the craptastic camera I just bought died after the second day of using it, so I won't really be able to post any pictures...

Still, a properly packed Go Bag can make the difference between spontaneously going out for an overnight hike at a moments notice, or frantically trying to find everything and pack it together as darkness approaches and eventually ending up stuck at home.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on The Xbox 360's Other Red Ring]]> Mine didn't even red ring for a while, but it would routinely lock up during the opening logo sequence. MS wouldn't even accept it for repair because it didn't have any rings, and I was out of warranty. Figures that they extend the warranty after I have to shell out $70 at best buy to get a new service plan for the replacement and arguing for 20 minutes as to why I was switching out the hard drives.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on Miyamoto Hints At Early Japanese Release For Mario Galaxy]]> @krln99: ok, tried to reply earlier, but it didn't take for some reason. I take it you haven't seen the mess with the COD4 beta yet. The beta (key word, BETA, not full release) is being done in the US first, and foreigners are howling for blood on the forums, threatening to not buy the game because the US gets the beta first, etc etc. This is an American developer, and they're catching a LOT of flak over it.

<![CDATA[Nephus commented on Miyamoto Hints At Early Japanese Release For Mario Galaxy]]> "Why? I don't think any Japanese or European would get bent out of shape if let's say MS said they're releasing HALO 3 in America first because it's an American game. Same goes for an EA Sports release.

Mario may be the exception, though, because it's universally loved throughout the world. "

I take it you haven't seen the mess with the COD4 beta coming to the US first. What's worse, is this is just the beta, not the actual release, and people are howling for blood on the forums.
