Interesting. Nothing from China? Really? I thought this one from English Russia would make it for sure.
I like the "spinner" from Blade Runner myself, but I can only find crappy, low-res pix of it that actually show the paint scheme. Lord knows you can't really discern the color of these in the film.
@snap_understeer_ftw: I beg to differ. GM, at least the "auto holdings" part, is what pulled out, at least 6 months prior to Toyota deciding to do so. Really, it was GM pulling out that forced Toyota to decide.
Ummm...hate to break it to you, but Hitchcock already incorporated Dali into the dream sequence sets of "Spellbound" So Hitchcock x Dali has already been done. But of course, this movie does look quite interesting.
@B1663R: Oh my awesome...WTF is that? Truckzilla's nemesis? Truckzilla : this thing what Jalopnik : Planeopnik
Nicely done. Bonus: U of M didn't win! #drivecomaulatestnews
@Russter: I don't care if this is true or not, that's a damn good story.
As soon as I saw this, I thought for sure someone was going to mention the *awesome* 1984 TV movie "Time Bomb" with Billy Dee Williams as a "transport specialist" and Morgan Fairchild as (wait for it) a terrorist leader trying to hijack Billy's truck full of plutonium. The truck, as I recall, looked sorta normal, but had this giant gun mounted above the cab, plus some other gizmos. Predictably, something goes wrong with the truck. Stopped watching a few minutes in. @tinman0: To each his own. It's not much of a spectator sport, I'll certainly grant you that, but as a participant (or race official), it is a singular experience. What was the point? Educating the participants on how to build a car, in this case, with a unique set of requirements. Also, educating the public during stops on not just green energy, but the power of engineering. It's not meant to qualify as a "car" no more than an F1 race car is a "car" It is a purpose-built racing machine, built only to win.
@Flathead Smith: Wow, your solar car team must've sucked. A good solar car can hit 80 mph and sustain 45, can take buffeting as well as if not better than a normal car (less side area), and does not use bicycle tires (although that was once common). On my solar car team, we had way more gearheads than tree-huggers. I think it was viewed by most as a real engineering challenge, not as an eco-ego thing.
"solar generator" Maybe that's some sort of translation artifact from the German? Solar array is more like it. This is a nice departure from what has become the typical solar car. I hope they do well. Failing that, I hope they beat Michigan.
YAAAAAAAY! You included Race the Sun, my suggestion! It's embarrassing as a former solar car racer to see my beloved sport portrayed in such horrific fashion, but whaddya gonna do? I have it on DVD - - maybe I need to post it to YT. Getting to see Steve Zahn as a hilariously over-the-top Eurotrash prima donna is pretty funny. Least realistic moment: when rescuing the driver from a fire, one team member shatters the windshield, which was made of glass...wait, what? You bother to save every ounce of weight to make your car go faster, but you make your windshield out of GLASS? HOW ABOUT SOME LEXAN, PEOPLE! GET REAL!
I nominate "Race the Sun" even though I own it. As a former solar car racer, I had to buy it. But as a piece of cinema, it is pretty much beyond redemption.

I have a couple of nominees for Honorable Mention: 1) To Live and Die in LA: Friedkin's other cop movie, although definitely a product of the '80s, has what I would argue is a better chase scene than French Connection. Wrong way on the LA freeway? Awww yeah. 2) Sorcerer: Yes, another Friedkin. Not exactly a car movie - but a very serious truck movie. And no, don't bother to watch the French film which every cinema snob will tell you is better - - it ain't. Plus The Simpsons made a brief parody shout-out during that wonderful Mr. Plow episode. 3) Cars (Pixar). Paul Newman, the only real life racer in any of the films (except maybe Steve McQueen?) as a Hudson Hornet? As a father of young kids this is one of the only movies I get to watch, car or otherwise, but it is a hoot, full of gear head in-jokes.
Sorry, but "liquid metal" likely does NOT mean chrome, but a (not really) new type of metallic paint that looks sorta like liquid metal. I saw this back when I was a paint engineer several years ago, and didn't think it was that cool. Maybe it's improved since then?
@Noiresque:

OK, so much for that. Just go here:
