@Jessica Coen: Why did you think that this deeply offensive rape apology would be of greater value to discussion than a debate between a Jezzie staffer and this person whom you call "articulate" and "thoughtful"?
I am utterly appalled at this article. The editors of Jezebel, of all people, should know that just because two sides to an argument exist does not mean both sides are equally valid. This lengthy rape apology has absolutely no place here, and I'm deeply offended and embarrassed that you thought it did.
Your patronizing editor's note is not helping your case.
@egg cream: I agree with you entirely. It could very easily be spun in the other direction, and your point about the premise being morally questionable regardless of whether or not women are involved I think is totally on the mark.
There's a certain "type" of caucasian person that I have a lot of trouble differentiating between. Back in high school there were these three blonde guys who for the longest time I thought were the same person. Everyone else thought I was crazy and insisted they looked nothing alike.
I wonder how much of it has to do with style and demeanor? For example, not all blondes look alike to me, but between a set of blondes who have the same hair style, dress the same way and have similar mannerisms?
Am I the only one who finds that York Peppermint Patty commercial, really, really gross? Everyone else thinks I'm crazy, but I always have to avert my gaze whenever it comes on!
I hardly see any of these things as being "dangled" in front of women to "lure" them into a "movie about dudes playing video games." Yeah they're tie ins, but the fact of the matter is that they're all objects with a really cool inspiration and stand entirely on their own merit, TRON tie-in or no.
p.s. That's a totally reasonable price for a full leather motorcycle get up. Dainese is more expensive.
@quisquous: Aww thanks! I've never been to Sydney (or anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere for that matter. I know, it's a problem). I'll be sure to hit you up when I make it there one day!
That's a really frustrating situation. And frankly, not something I expected from a site like Jezebel. Isn't (or, sadly, wasn't, as the case currently is) MizJenkins doing exactly what Jezebel attempts to do in so many of their posts about race? The whole, you know, "critiquing casual racism" thing?
I'm not gonna lie, I've always kind of wanted a star here, but now that I know how essentially worthless they are, I'm considerably less interested.
@Oneirix: I did a bit of digging (and I am chagrined at having misspelled her name). I'm not sure if I found the exact post, but now I'm really sad I can't heart her. :(
@Marla Singer: Bummer. I don't know who Tracie is (mod? editor?), but don't they need some kind of commenter consensus?
I've never interacted with MzJenkins, but I've always found her arguments to be particularly articulate and compelling. It surprises me that she'd be banned for pointing out a post was racist. And it's even more surprising that it seems like a lot of starred commenters seem to want her back and nothing's happened.
@Oneirix: Oh sorry, I didn't see that you had bike problems before! LLisCool has your back. An upright position will make your commute much friendlier!
