This just reminds me of all those times as a young lad I'd be talking to all my other mates who loved Star Wars and they'd comment 'I really want to like Han Solo, but I just can't forgive him for shooting Greedo without so much as a how do you do'.
Saying 'Han shot first' implies someone shot second. You wouldn't say you came in first in a race if you were the only one in it. It's just terrible grammar.
While there are some effects sequences in the original trilogy that show their age, by and large they contain a wealth of fantastic effects work that still holds up to this day.
We are in the minority here, but you feel pretty much exactly the same way I do. They already brought in HG once as an antagonist and redeemed her, and I kept saying 'please don't let her good girl routine be a rouse hiding some evil plot'. And, of course, it was. That's fine, if disappointing, but trying to get me to like her again after she attempted genocide feels a bit insulting.
I love Verhoeven's film, but if this turns out to be an adaptation of the novel and not a remake of Verhoeven's film, I'm all for it. If I recall correctly the film had nothing to do with Starship Troopers until it was long into pre-production and was originally called Bug Hunt?
