1. Deadwood

2. Firefly (of course)

3. Farscape - with it picking up where the show ended and ignoring the movie. Not that I didn't like the movie, I just want the *whole* crew back together. #observationdeck

This might be too young, but "The Last Unicorn" ends with the A-couple not getting together (not even being the same species anymore). It had a big impact on me when I read it as a kid - I really appreciated the fact that it was different from everything else I'd been exposed to up to that point. #observationdeck
It worked for Aegon because he could stomach it. Dany is so sentimental and obsessed with being a "mother" to her subjects. If she follows through with the "blood and fire" invasion I foresee a lot of angst and whining in her future chapters.

Or at least more then there already is.

Look out Daenerys! It's a trap!
No, you're definitely not the only one. What makes it even more annoying is that when characters who actually know what went down offer to tell her the truth (like Ser Barristan) she flat out refuses to hear it. Sure, she uses excuses like "not yet, another day" but it seems like such a cop out on her part. She needs to suck it up and stop living in denial while trying to idealize her crazy-ass family.

Not to mention just how devastating her invasion plan is going to be. Does she really think unleashing dragons is going to rally the support of the populace? Unless she's planning on offering free dragon-rides I can't really see it working out.

I'm ashamed to say that the same thing (almost) happened to me with The Phantom Menace. Almost because nothing can outweigh the terribleness of Jar-Jar and the kid-Anakin (Anakid?). 13-year old me was overwhelmed by the hotness of young Obi-Wan. It took a second viewing to truly appreciate just how awful the plot was. #observationdeck
Rumour has it! [www.bleedingcool.com]

It sounds like it's a long ways off so I'm trying to remain cautiously optimistic. #observationdeck

Exactly! Little things like that made it just perfect. All the little bits and pieces that came together to create the Ankh-Morpork atmosphere. I really hope they do more adaptations with the same dedication and attention to what makes Discworld so special. I want a Witches movie! Or the Watch (although I'd settle for the TV series that is supposedly in the works)! #observationdeck
I was just thinking how much I want to buy it so I can re-watch whenever I want! On that note, have you seen this yet? Such an amazing cast. #observationdeck
To give you a basis for my review: I liked Hogfather (re-watch it every Christmas) and hated The Colour of Magic (fell asleep part way through, never finished it). There were definitely a few things included in Going Postal that you'd needed to have read some Discworld in order to understand, which I appreciated in a strange, elitist way.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! #observationdeck

Reading Snuff has put me into a "all-things-Discworld" frenzy. Last night I watched the Going Postal movie for the first time. I loved it, definitely the best adaptation so far. Good writing, great casting (perfect Moist and Adora), so many fun references . . . there are too many "favourite things" to name them all, but I do have to mention Tywin Lannister as Lord Vetinari (accompanied by background lion statues). Even though the hair colour wasn't right, they couldn't have chosen a better actor. Now I desperately want to see a strategic show-down between Tywin and Vetinari. Who could out-plot who? #observationdeck
I'm now about 2/3 of the way through and very happy I managed to start. There are still a few lines that bring on the "laugh out loud" for me, but I know what you mean about it being different. I definitely get the feeling that he's trying to fit as many ideas and topics into the book as possible - maybe he feels like he's running out of time. It's still Discworld though and I still love it, although it makes me wish I had the rest of my books around for a re-read. #observationdeck
I've heard rumours that he's mentioned his daughter (also a writer) as his potential successor. I haven't read anything by her, so I don't know if she could fill her father substantial shoes. Honestly I'd rather have the books just end with him, rather then risk someone unworthy mucking about with my beloved characters (I really can't imagine anyone but Pterry nailing the voices of Vimes or Granny Weatherwax).

Even thinking about these things makes me sad. #observationdeck

I live in Canada, and contrary to all the "you die while on the waiting list" horror stories my experiences have all been top notch. For some anecdotal evidence:

About two years ago I went to the emergence room with abdominal pain. Within a few hours I had my blood taken and a CT scan to determine if it was appendicitis (I would have been in sooner but the patient before me had crashed while in the CT scan - the techs were still a little shocked looking when I got there), was given a bed for the night, some pain killers and a referral to a gastrointestinal specialist (they suspected it was either bacterial or Crohn's disease). Less then a week later I was at the specialists happily being informed that it was bacterial. I couldn't have hoped for a speedier or happier conclusion.

Anecdotal evidence number two: my aunt recently had surgery to remove a growth from her uterus. It was originally determined to be non-urgent so the surgery was going to be this spring. About two weeks before Christmas she went for a check up where they discovered the growth had suddenly grown by a substantial amount (previously there'd been no change). A week and a half later she was in surgery to have it removed (it turned out to be benign, so yay! They even sent it to two labs just to be sure).

So while I won't say things are perfect here, I do think our healthcare system is misrepresented by critics. But that's just my experience so far.

You have some good reading ahead of you (silver lining?). Especially with the Moist and Tiffany Aching books. One of his most recent non-Discworld books "Nation" is also spectacular.

My hope now is that he gets his wish and is allowed to end things on his own terms. #observationdeck

I think I support group might be in order. #observationdeck
That'd definitely be interesting, although I feel like bloodbending isn't the sort of thing Katara would be eager to pass on to the new generation.
Thanks! I was behind on my spoilers (although the hair loopies really should have given it away). Three characters from the original series returning is great news.
I'm glad it's not just me (even though it's a terrible feeling I don't wish on anyone). I wouldn't feel stupid about it either, since there seems to be three of us suffering from it, that means it's totally justified.

Seriously though, what you described pretty much sums up all my feelings/thoughts. It doesn't help that it's about Vimes who is not only one of my favourite characters, but I suspect one of Terry's as well. I hate the idea of Terry being unable to write about them as much as I hate the idea of never reading about Vimes or the Watch again. #observationdeck

I really want to know! I love spoilers. Spoil away!
