@seitzk002: I agree with all the authors you've listed and would also add that Octavia Butler is great for breaking away from the straight-white-male sci-fi mindset, although perhaps better for slighter older kids, maybe 16 and up. #youngadultsciencefiction
@Starwatcher: I was fortunate enough to grow up with a copy of this book in my house, but it is nearly impossible to obtain these days, which is the primary reason it did not make the list. #youngadultsciencefiction
@cletar: my dreadful personal oversight. I recall reading Voyage to the Mushroom Planet in fifth grade, and it escaped my mind when putting this list together. Do forgive me. #youngadultsciencefiction
@NerD: Blattella: Grass is absolutely amazing but I'd imagine a little dense for a 13-year-old. I'd happily hand it or any other Tepper novels over to a high schooler, however. #youngadultsciencefiction
@Eseph: I love the Dirk Gently books, but I think some of the themes and ideas, ST Coleridge for one, are better for older readers. #youngadultsciencefiction
@HowIsYourFlat: I agree with you, essentially. Hence I poked fun at the whole punk labeling in my article, albeit quietly. "It seems that everything has a "-punk" suffix these days. Steampunk, Cyberpunk, dieselpunk, biopunk, biodieselpunk..."
@absinthetic: Indeed! And in fact, put your project into such perfect prose, we had to quote you directly!
@Mathmos: Thanks for catching my typo : )
Suddenly, I really want to see a film version of Long Dark Tea Time of the soul with Natalie playing Kate.
I had a whole rant to add here, but really I can boil it down. I listen to the /filmcast weekly, and I read slash film daily. I'm a fangirl. I'm a girl. I'm a geek. I'm under 30. And yes, I will be all up in your Hall H space at the con. Dear Peter Sciretta, you've gone on record as loving the movie "American Teen" but apparently you hate american teenagers. If this was a teen boy sensation, I suspect you'd have a different point of view.
Charlie Jane wins, hands down, for best use of a Plath tag.
@blackoak: My cousin is an 'Aspie'and has the sharpest wit of anyone I know. ; )
@blackoak: I would consider it a comedy, although you could argue it is a teen drama or satire...really, all these labels apply.

As for HHGTTG ... yes! I almost included some clips in the this article, but it doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the list.

@mrbloober: Yep, and he narrates the NewsFLASH segment. Get it? The original series was awash with references like that.
@Hlaode: Thanks for catching that! Fixed it. :)
I love Torchwood because they know how to "embrace the cheese factor" in much the same way Angel did. I agree with the fact that once they started killing off team members, the show lost some appeal. Maybe they will expand the team again with some new blood... The dino-hunters from Primeval are currently out of a gig - maybe they should send in their resumes?
Isn't that london eye image from the Dr.Who episode Rose?
I had no idea a Methuselah Foundation existed. Methuselah has become such the go-to allusion for aging in sci-fi(for example J.F. Sebastian in Blade Runner suffers from Methuselah syndrome) that it seems very surreal to actually read about the foundation. Thanks!
