Ad hominem attacks are not fair debate. I used the language that could most clearly describe what I felt they did in the scene without actually seeing the light placement. Off set analysis of a scene and the language used to describe that analysis is different from the language used on set to actually implement the plan. And it is not intended to exclude..much..it is there like all nomenclature to communicate clearly what is wanted and intended.
Really a world weary sigh? I just disagree with you about your lighting comment. And backed it up with why I felt your assessment was incorrect. Don't mix in the quality of the CG and post effects with that discussion. In the end it is all subjective anyway. If we lived in a world where morning TV looked like that show it would be a much darker and interesting place. Cheers
Looking at around :25-:31 I see they are using soft key to represent the ambient light with multi-plane background and incidental neon and random gags to give her back lighting. Good use of shadow to emphasize the action in the background that is lit using pools of motivated lighting. It is almost off camera key but really the key is soft to bring down her shadows and be more representative of ambient light. so yeah that might come off as flat but I think it works for the scene.
Percy Jackson wasn't that bad. It was just a popular YA novel put to film. I would be curious to see the list of the top ten of this genre. Also the talk of Hercules brought to mind the old Bill Murray bit on SNL they did in B/W with bad overdubs of English over Italian. herc has gotten older. "I cannot lift that rock, it is much too heavy.."
Aside from the no budget stuff produced locally, The guy that played shaggy in the scooby doo movies directed Fat Kids rule the World last summer. I got a call this weekend about a show out in Forks but chose to decline. No desire to do Night Exteriors in late October in the rainiest town in North America. Probably Second unit stuff anyway. Spokane does get a lot of shows which is good for them and the Local as they tend to be Union gigs and they are far enough away from Vancouver to not really saturate the market. I do not think that Racoon show ever finished but I never heard anything about it after the initial story about them pulling up stakes. Tax breaks are a bandaid solution to a severed limb. And it failed nonetheless. c'set l'vie I have a day job and do shows on weekend for fun. Cheers
Back in the 80s before the Canadians decided to subsidize the film industry in Vancouver, Most Seattle based films were shot here. Dog Fight, Harry nad the Hendersons, Harry in Your Pocket, Say Anything, A really cool Alan Rudoph film called Trouble in Mind, featuring Devine not in drag, American Heart, Fire Walk with me Actually Everett and Snoqualmie, Past Midnight (Tasha Richardson and Rutger Haur) Meet me at the worlds fair with Elvis. and many more. The first film in my memory to use Vancouver as Seattle except a second unit establishing shot of the space needle was Stake Out. We lostpolitical interest in supporting and promoting production, the Eschange rate and subsidies made business sense for producers to go to Vancouver and a one way border prevented us trades people for going up there to work. 20 years later and you have Mansquito.
Battle is actually a pretty good movie. I forget about how they treated Mr Locke but the overall story and conflicts were genuine and well portrayed. As for geographical continuity, I do not think I have ever seen a show shot here that was accurate. For that matter shows in LA usually throw the map out the window.
Looks pretty cool by my reckoning. Though I would like to add that although it takes place in Seattle it was not shot here. Thanks Canadian one way border
Actually I would take this a step further and say that there should be no remakes. There are too many good ideas and writers out there with I am sure are great new ideas. And not enough budget. New stories will win the day not rehashes.
I loved those books too. It took me a while to relize they were talking bout guinea pigs, the used a different word for them. I recall a scene where they are adventruing under the deck or some such and get attacked by a Guinea pig
