Look. I get it. You're going to nitpick apart some portion of whatever comment I make. Just to paint a picture here I was extremely excited for the new Star Trek movie. I was giddy from the moment I realized what was on the screen during the teaser trailer. Hell, I even dressed up as Bones for the midnight premiere. That was the biggest cinematic disappointment I have ever experienced. Something was just missing. It was the only time in my life it was cool to be a Trekkie and the only time I didn't want to be one. Here is the core of my opinion: Star Trek has never been flawless in the realm of science or even watertight plot. It has had its highs and lows, its over-zealous fanatics and its irrational haters. That said, Star Trek is supposed to mean something more than pretty CGI and explosions. It is an ideal future in which we explore the stars and try to better ourselves and mankind as a whole. J.J. Abrams simply does not understand Star Trek. The new Trek movie has lost that which made the original series great. That is what I think. If you cannot at least see where I am coming from then I have nothing more to say.
I agree with you completely. I don't think the pseudoscience is a good reason to hate the new Trek. That quote is a symptom of the greater problem. As you said old Trek would have had some BS fancy science terms. New Trek had a galaxy destroying supernova. I don't sweat the science flaws and aesthetic problems but I do take issue with the terrible dialogue and the brainless plot.
"Still, it would have been nice if they also concentrated on trying to live up to the things that made the original an inspiration to millions of fans for almost five decades, including astronauts, scientists, teachers, and artists. The most this new one will inspire anyone to do is run around going 'pew! pew!'"

Peace an long life, comrade. These sentences embody opinion in another's voice. To quote the Romulan Captain in "Balance of Terror" :
"I regret that we meet in this way. You and I are of a kind. In a different reality, I could have called you friend."

While I disagree that destroying Vulcan was an "f- you" in and of itself, the movie was riddled with downright infuriating evidence that Abrams, Orci, and Kurtzman don't understand Trek:

The great shipyard of Iowa, the over sized apple store enterprise, Vulcans apparently enjoying physical intimacy, the awful Kobayashi Maru cheat code, "Oh no we're at war, I guess we'll have to man the fleet with cadets."

And those are only superficial examples. I think Abrams really missed the mark with the character dynamic. Spock's just a smug prick and Kirk's a frat boy asshole. Scotty's a walking parody. Then you have Karl Urban's exquisite Bones relegated to a nothing role.

As for passive aggressive insults: Pike in a fashionable wheel chair? That's a fuck you.
Vulcan's destruction however...
"In the future a star will explode threatening the entire galaxy."
That's just shitty writing.

Oh man you aren't kidding. That game had an intense learning curve. It's one of the few games that I truly needed to develop skills to beat. I guess that's why it was so satisfying.
Okay so I can file a bunch of this game's new features (QTE's, cinematic kills, interactive emotion, crazy ninpo camera, etc.) in the benefit of the doubt category. That said, "no dismemberment" and "feels too easy" are not things that I would ever want to associate with Ninja Gaiden.

True NG1 and NGB did not have dismemberment but there is no need to take a step backwards. As for the game being too easy... well at least I won't have to buy any more controllers.

As usual cautious optimism until the damn thing's actually released.

Aaaaaand neither can I.
Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thinks of this creature first.
Oh man I had forgotten the specialist. The lobby map was sick. Made me feel just like Neo.
God damn I love Zone of the Enders but if it has to bite the bullet so that I can get Metal Gear Rising done by Hideo himself... well sorry Jehuty but you're gonna star in a Japanese pop music video.
Hopefully it'll be Metal Gear X featuring a new character. Poor Snake needs to rest and Big Boss doesn't have a whole lot of decades that haven't been covered already.
Twas but a jest my good man. Intentionally nitpicking. Don't even get me started on Skyrim...
In all actuality that's probably about right.
Nail on the head. Even with effort sarcasm is not easily apparent in text.
Good to know. I'm actually in Naval flight training right now so that could actually bother me.
I was sarcastically nitpicking to an extreme degree. I actually would like to play the game but it's just not in the budget right now. I opted for Skyrim and Arkham City instead :(
Why is the glide slope indicator for that aircraft illuminated? Landing gear shouldn't be down. If it was the donut and the chevrons would not all be illuminated at once. Terrible attention to detail. This games sucks I'm never getting it blarghayuiygefyg
Well per the latest article it seems the new Metal Gear Rising is basically a complete remake by Platinum. The original was a prototype in the MGS4 engine. I guess that's why everything looked so much smoother. Even so I could forgive graphics if the mechanics and more importantly, Hideo Kojima's direction and atmosphere, were still present. Instead we're getting Jack-san in the Xtreme Slice for Great Justice anime.
Heh. No kidding. Although I don't have a problem with Liam Neeson as an Admiral. The youngest Admiral ever? Yes, but I can look the other way.

And I always thought of Battleship as warfare with tall ships... that could fire over the horizon... in heavy fog.
