Haha, and sorry if I use the word 'personally' a lot, but I just always have to stress that this is mainly my opinion. To each their own.
And we can pretty much stop right here cause this line perfectly illustrates that you cannot and will not ever please everybody. While you claim Zelda would be better with no story or plot to structure the adventure, so many other Zelda fans want more story. Hell, they just translated the timeline and from what I've seen most Zelda fans are pleased.
"Isn't that what we want? For games to get deep inside of us, to restructure our consciousness, to reroute our labyrinthine nerves, to resonate with our captive hearts, to matter? The way legends do."
To be honest, no. The games I enjoy the most are the games I find the most entertaining, because that's all gaming is to me; entertainment. The Zelda series is my favorite overall series of all time because I primarily enjoy ever single game for it's simplicity, the evolution of the combat, the puzzles, the weapons and such. Skyward Sword gave me everything I wanted and more. I found the experience immensely enjoyable and entertaining and that's all the matters!
Therein lies part of the problem. A lot of these people do not want to be enlightened or educated. "Ignorance is bliss" so to speak, and it applies to the voters of this country. The real reason you're seeing so many protests like the fight in Wisconsin & Ohio over basic workers rights or perhaps even the Occupy movement is because things have gotten so bad & disjointed that some people can't ignore it anymore.
See this right here? What you said? That's the POINT of why a lot of people are pissed at Lucas, because he's going out of his way to never allow the past versions to be seen again. And it's really upsetting when he says things like "Blade Runner has gotten recut three ways from Sunday, and nobody seems to mind." because he still doesn't understand why people are upset. And what makes it so much worse is that there's NO REASON NOT TO RELEASE THEM. NONE. AT ALL. WHAT-SO-FUCKING-EVER. They are guaranteed to make money. Instantly. The only reason not to do it is because of his ego. Even Quesada screwing with Spidey with OMD, as much as I hate that (seriously it's my least favorite event in comics history and I stopped buying it immediately after OMD) did not go out of his way to make the previous Spidey comics unavailable.
That's the problem, and it's insulting not as a Star Wars fan but as a movie fan, a fan who recognizes that Lucas did not create Star Wars all by himself, that other people helped with this creation, other directors & editors & screen play writers. It's an insult to them more than it is the fans, and judging by the evidence presented by the prequels, the changes, his comments when asked questions, it's become painfully evident that while Lucas had the spark that created the Star Wars universe, he had very little to do with making them the films that people grew up loving.
It's not about "Lucas raping our childhood" but more about him going out of his way to deny it to people and calling us idiots for liking it! Star Trek, especially the Next Gen, is not only giving us back our childhood but going out of their way to enhance the look of the original effects.
