I love it when Fantasy breaks away from the tired settings, and does something different. I'll have to check out Throne of the Crescent Moon.

But I have read Desert of Souls by Howard Andrew Jones, and it's also a good read.

I'm pretty sure it's just terrifying.

Three days worth of calories in one burger? Ugh.

Give FFG's other stuff a try if you like lots of chrome and pieces (i.e. "Ameritrash" games).

My group is over-the-top for Battlestar Galactica. Yes, it's someone else's IP, but the game can be really awesome. Arkham Horror and/or Battlelore are also good choices.

WoW Monopoly? Really? People will buy anything.

You'd be better off spending your cash on something like this from Fantasy Flight Games.

If you haven't read the book, it's surprisingly good. It takes Lincoln's biography and inserts vampire-related events (e.g. the death of his mother), providing motivation for his later political stances. The vampires are pro-slavery, and Lincoln's anti-slavery stance is parlayed into an anti-vampire stance. Good stuff.

I don't know about the movie, though. The trailer didn't give me an impression of an historically accurate period punctuated with vampire killings.

My house has played most of them. It certainly helps if you're attracted to that property, but they get better as they go along. The original Star Wars game (prequel movies) was not as good as the second Star Wars game (Eps 4-6). But the best way to buy those now is an tweaked/collected edition with all six movies.

Personally I really liked LEGO Batman. You got to play as heroes and then as villains in the same levels and it had a lot of variety.

The LEGO community is all atwitter about the new articulated horses, which can rear up on their hind legs.

The set is really awesome because it comes with Lex, Superman, and Wonder Woman minifigs. We gave to a seven-year-old for his birthday recently, and he was ecstatic.
The Super Hero line is already on store shelves, all of the Batman sets shown here, and the Lex Luthor armor (vs. Superman and Wonder Woman!) have been out for a couple of weeks.

Avengers sets should come out in time for the movie... and LotR sets out in time for The Hobbit?

Either way, my household will spend about $400 on LEGO this year, thanks to Avengers and LotR sets. Yikes.

LEGO is heavily involved in licensed properties these days, because they can sell very, very well (e.g. Star Wars, which basically pulled the company out of an impending financial collapse).

But there are a number of non-licensed LEGO properties on the market right now Ninjago and LEGO City, for example.

With Mega Blocks, you get what you pay for, sloppy quality control and plenty of licensed stuff as well (e.g. HALO and Power Rangers).

I'm a big fan of the euro-sleaze that Luc Besson produces these days, but c'mon, it's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.... IN SPACE!
I'd love to own some of the MONDO posters, but they are snatched up quickly and then flipped on eBay for a premium.

They'd look great in my Game Room (which I should point out only exists in my imagination).

For example, CBS has made a lot of money in syndicating 30-min sitcoms. No one wants to sit down on Thursday afternoon at 5:30 to watch a third-season episode of LOST. But people will happily watch mid-season shows from "How I Met Your Mother" or "Big Bang Theory".

Note that a LOT of CBS' shows that could have long-narrative structure (e.g. NCIS) do just fine as standalone episodes as well. All the better for more syndication dollars...

Connie Willis is great! I met her at a con and she signed my beloved dog-eared copy of "To Say Nothing of the Dog" instead of her new hardback. (It's a great book!).
Ah yes, I remember swapping videotapes (yes, VIDEOTAPES) of this show. It aired on my station at 2:00 AM Sunday morning, and again later in the week. But if you caught it early in the week, you could keep up with the conversation over on usenet/Lurker's Guide.

Good times.

Here's another (better?) shot from the same set.
I've played D&D (Blue Box), AD&D (Red Box), 2nd Edition, and 3rd Edition.

(Yes, I'm old.)

All I hear about 4th Edition is a lot of bitching, and that Pathfinder is MUCH better.

The Boris Vallejo stuff is good. But when I close my eyes and think of Barsoom, Frazetta is the image I see.
This article made me want to go brush my teeth, RIGHT NOW.
I never got around to reading Cobweb.

Now you make me not want to bother.
