Where are the stars? Whenever I see photos taken from space at near-ish objects you can barely see the stars - w/o the atmosphere obscuring things shouldnt they be much much brighter?
The standard sequence is: Aliens attack with overwhelming force, humans are all but defeated, during the last 10 minutes of the film we figure out the aliens one big weakness and exploit it, the end. Because aliens would never know how to protect themselves against a computer virus, or actual virus, or *water*, etc...
I think also maybe fantasy is easier to write? Your hero can always invoke some sort of magical something-or-other to get out of a jam. The harder that your scifi is, the more you are constrained by physics and plausibility.
"Things seem to pass quickly because the brain's clock is sped up" If your brain's clock is sped up shouldnt everything in the real world seem *slower*?
@Vundal @bookwench yes, safewords for all! But I think the fantasy for most is that there *isnt* an escape hatch - even though everyone involved knows there is - you pretend there isnt. So the books can work as sex fantasy - the question is if he believes that thats the on true way of Nature and how things should be for reals. Has anyone read his Imaginative Sex book? Is it purely more M/f or does he recognize all the many other permutations of how we humans connect?
thanks for responding. Btw - I tried to promote a couple of comments that mention the hard of hearing, but my promotion powers dont seem to be working! I get it though - its a tough call. You are putting out a free (though sponsored) podcast which is a lot of work to do. I bet putting together that timeline was a pain just by itself. On the other hand there are people who would enjoy the discussion but who will not be able to.
@Allisonaxe: I agree! Hint though - put a "ca." before the link to get to the old formatted page, so try: [ca.io9.com]
Also, Gawker, it would be great if the video was available on my mobile browser too - Im not sure why it isnt coming up - but on iOS (4.2.1) and Mobile Safari the youtube video doesnt show up as links or embedded.
