I agree, but he is catering to the extreme, which is just plain stupid. There are alot of reactionary republicans, and just as many radical democrats. But the majority see merit in science, and are not nutso either way. I can see the point in climate change. Until we get the entire world on board, we cannot drastically affect it by castrating what little industry the US has left. China and the rest of Southern Asia have basically said"Yeah, we are screwing up the environment but we don't care." If we close down industry here, it will move to South America or China, and will be done with even less pollution control.
It stinks but things like cap and trade won't save the global environment, they will simply cripple the last few remaining strong industries in the US. The fact that people don't want it doesn't mean they hate science, it means they would rather not be unemployed.

The shows likely to get axed after this year anyways, so you might as well watch. I believe Fringe has shed more viewers than any other show this year outside of Glee, which went from ridiculous viewing to just excellent.
