I thought in the us hydrocodone had to be combined with a non-opioid painkiller? That's why I assumed when someone's taking hydro they're using Vicodin or something similar, the report may have just omitted the brand name or less flashy drugs. Of course they could have gotten it from Canada or somewhere where you can get the pure form, so I shouldn't assume, but that doesn't put it outside the realm of possibilities. Oxy I think you can get pure in the US.
Wikipedia:
n the U.S., hydrocodone is always found in combination with other drugs such as paracetamol, aspirin, ibuprofen and homatropine methylbromide due to compounding regulations. These combinations are considered C-III substances. The purpose of the non-controlled drugs in combination is often twofold: 1) To provide increased analgesia via drug synergy. 2) To limit the intake of hydrocodone by causing unpleasant and often unsafe side effects at higher-than-prescribed doses (See Below). As stated above, hydrocodone is not available in pure form in the United States due to a separate regulation, and is always sold with an NSAID, paracetamol, antihistamine, expectorant, or homatropine.

Also, I'm guessing the zombie-roast back at the farm will draw the attention of the rest of Rene's friends.
And yes, said shippers are a real thing:
