With the focus on nanotechnology, genetics, microbiology, and the central role that atoms play in chemistry and physics, I think thats as close a universal symbol for science as we can get. And best of all, it kinda works for astronomy too!
Pretty cool. Its like a Sci-Fi Bob Ross painting: And over here, lives a happy little gun turret...You know what would be nice? Lets put a little guy falling to his death from this big explosion!
Er, I'm no astronomer, but why wouldnt this just be considered a planet without a home star? I mean, we recently had a big hullabaloo about how potentially billions of orphaned planets may be roaming the galaxy without any parent stars. Wouldnt this fit the bill? And what is the upper limit of planet mass anyway? 1-2 Jupiters?
I've actually done research in this field - erasing skilled motor memories in rats. In short, we taught rats how to reach for food over an obstacle, and once they had learned how to do so, we injected the motor areas of their brains with a molecule that inhibited the memory maintenance mechanism. We were able to successfully erase their "muscle memory" and in doing so showed that the same mechanism that underlies memories in the hippocampus - long term potentiation - also does so in the motor cortex, big implications for neuro-prostheses for people who lost limbs, and brain/machine interfacing.
Krysten Ritter for Petra! I dunno why, she's the closest to the mental image I've made in my head for the character. If you're going for good acting though, I'd pick amongst Kiernan Shipka, Chloe Moretz and other strong child actors/actresses. Paul Dano also looks a lot younger than his years and is a strong actor, could be considered for one of the older male roles.
How does this account for the large number of "hot-Jupiters" that we are finding around many other stars? Shouldnt their gas have been blasted away long ago according to this model?
Thats probably what they were meant to do. Also, the shot showing the ships and aliens squaring off from a birds eye view is also evokative of the game.
Beyond that, this movie looks like absolute garbage. Ugh,
I personally enjoyed the movie, and felt it was more or less faithful to the book. However, the one change I quibble with is the manner in which the final battle btw Harry and Voldy ended. In the book Voldy levels the death curse at Harry, who shouts "accio wand!" and the curse rebounds on Voldy. It kept in-line with Harry defeating Voldemort more with his cunning rather than via magical powers. In the movie, it was as if Harry overwhelmed Voldemort in the end. I suppose its what the director was going for, but I don't think that really kept in the spirit of the movies or the books.
Meh. Looks retarded and out of place. I think he just photoshopped in the star destroyer from this much better picture: [images.cryhavok.org]
Far better shot would have been to show the cathedral and grounds in shadow and the looooong underbelly of the star destroyer looming overhead as in the opening of New Hope.
