I still kind of love the Motion Picture... but I don't think it's a great film. Even apart from the huge pacing issues, it's one of those films where it feels like there's less to it than meets the eye. It's basically the "Nomad" episode blown up to unsustainable proportions.
You beat me to it. How is digital different than virtual?
Some of these are already in the article. but thanks for the others!
It's debatable. In the real world, mushrooms are a drug.
Oh sorry about that. Let me fix that now!
I feel like currently, Alcatraz is sort of adequate... It's perfectly serviceable, yes, but not that entertaining yet. In most episodes, the flashbacks are so much more sparky and interesting than the bland present-day crime solving stuff, it almost doesn't feel like the same show.
I agree that the flashbacks are the best part of the show -- although the latest episode's flashbacks were probably less interesting than previous weeks', because they were focused on crime-solving, rather than on developing the society within the prison.

I haven't watched Once Upon a Time since the pilot, so I have no clue whether I'd be enjoying it if I was watching it. The pilot did not seem like my cup of tea. Alcatraz could be my cup of tea, if the charactrs weren't all so one-note. I'd be interested to hear why you care about the characters, given that they're pretty thin at this point. As for the "forward momentum," you mean the fact that we get a little dollop of mythos every week? A few more details about the experiments in the infirmary, and a few more hints about Dr. Sangupta being around in 1960 and the present day? I don't consider that forward momentum, so much as "backstory."
Yup. It was the only thing I could think of. :)

Alcatraz is dragging. With mines.

February 14, 2012 – Remember last week, when we said Alcatraz was getting sorta interesting? Well... we may have spoken too soon. "Paxton Petty" was an exceedingly dull outing, in which the criminal mastermind of the week was a mad bomber, with like four bombs. Just a quickie recap this time, as we use our patented... More »
