That's a really good point about Terminator.
Personally I wish the movie was more realistic, along the lines of what Cameron had originally planned. Google "Project 880" for the details.
@it must be bunnies: Annalee's article on Avatar has been cited all over the internet, I keep seeing it again and again. It's quite impressive, I don't think I've ever seen such reach for a scifi blog post.
George Lucas should try and redeem himself, the talent is in him, but this is not the way. This is the way of pure profits without creation, it is the way of the dark side.
I'm pretty sure the first Cylon war will be shown in Caprica.
I know the timelines don't match, but there's this simple narrative device where the screen goes black, and in white the word "8 years later" are written, or something like that.
@shadownode: I don't think whedon could do terminator, it's a very different style.
He relies heavily on character evolution and humour for his shows. There's almost no place for humour in terminator, and character evolution is restricted.
I say give it to Josh Friedman.
1) Wouldn't Terminator Salvation have made a lot of money in light of the international box office success?
2) The picture in the article represents exactly what the franchise should never become.
@Pope John Peeps II: Well, depends where you get your criticisms.
The criticism I'm seeing is the most is that the movie was missing stuff. It would have benefited from some backdrop of Earth, it could have told us why unobtainium is important, it could have had a better culture for the Na'Vi, etc.
2 hours 40 minutes isn't that long for a story.
@Pope John Peeps II: When you don't understand the purpose of a scene, it might be better to start with the assumption that you don't understand the purpose of scene, rather than that the scene is useless. Perhaps the director had a point, and others saw a point and you just missed it.
That's not an "opinion", directors usually have a point for each scene, and nobody gets the purpose of each scene. 2 facts.
For example Grace feeding Jake. It seems pointless to you. Ok, that's fine, you missed the meaning. Other people get it. They're stressing the idea that he just doesn't care for his broken human body anymore, doesn't give a damn. He has to be force fed. Normally this is what happens to people in a state of depression, but he's in a state of euphoria. He's giving up one of the few pleasures of his human life. If we lived in a more liberal society, I suspect they would show us he's no longer interested in sex with human beings.
@sakeido: haters are not particularly interested in making sense. For the culture snob, condescending criticism is the means to an end, the end being appearing wiser than what one, appearing "above it all", "better than the masses".
