@sassafras_: I don't think that Android fragmentation is a killer let-down, though it could end up that way.
Fragmentation of the iOS systems is going to be less of a problem though because of Apple's tight control over everything, and because new iterations of hardware and software happen on a known schedule. Each year you get a new phone and pad and OS. It's easier for consumers to know what they're buying and what it will be capable of. If this rumor about Honeycomb's requirements is correct, it will mean a lot of consumers are stuck with tablet hardware that is non-upgradeable, and while people are used to upgrading their phones every couple of years or so, I'm not sure that they'll be willing to do the same for larger and pricier chunks of hardware.
This could just be an issue with the youth, so to speak, of Android though. Once it gets more mature, these issues might not seem as big. Right now though, the possibility that a spanking new $500 purchase might be a non-upgradeable dead end within six months is going to put a crimp in sales.
When they dock the Alien movies for having 'easy interbreeding between humans and aliens', I think they missed the whole point of the films. And have a disturbing definition of 'easy'.
@Chris Braak: Weren't paying attention in November and December of 2000?
If you punch a hole in paper, but the paper that has been removed from hole is still attached by a thread, like when using a sub-par hole puncher, then it's a hanging chad. There was a bit of a mess in Florida with that.
Or maybe they just have a different expectation of convenience and functionality for their phone, as opposed to their PC or tablet. I'll hack on my PC, if I had a tablet I'd probably hack on that, but I want my phone to be able to make calls and play my music, with no issues.
@Charlie Jane Anders: So putting something in quotes makes up for the fact that what is inside the quotes is false? Not to mention the fact that the word 'mosque' triggers a slightly different reaction from people than 'community center'?
"Being able to look at actual stock quotes on CNBC while Jim Cramer's head turns red and pops like a pimple, or tweeting about how crazy it is that Don Draper's secretary just said that thing about black people is just the beginning of what apps on a television can be. And Google TV's the first TV platform to make that a real possibility."
And this is a good thing? All this means is that catasses will be able to update their Facebook status with whatever they're watching and be able to play Farmville at the same time.
@Erinaceus: There is another episode that has some scene that implies that she's their mother. Think there's a shot of her and the original Hank and Dean babies.
@Krakenstein: I'm guessing some sort of Fringe alternate universe thing where you have an alternate Rusty who has turned the place into a scientific utopia.
Then again that's a pretty obvious guess, and Jackson and Doc are pretty good at no doing obvious.
