SMBC topical once again.

And for the record, shouldn't the word "discovered" be appended to the title of the article?

"Behind every man now alive stand 30 ghosts, some of whom are named Rex and Mr. Paws."
Wait, someone help me with math here. If there have been 107 billion humans, and there are currently 7 billion humans, doesn't that mean that behind every one of us currently stand about 15 ghosts and not 70?
... I don't know if I should get into this, but since you commented, here goes:

Did you read the article? Did you read the whole article? Because if you did you'd see that it was a pretty cogent summation of the current work being done in this field. Nobody is seriously suggesting that science not ask this question. It isn't in some people's subfields, certainly, but that's very different.

Yes, God is an unsatisfactory answer to science. So is magic, and so is not asking. To pretend otherwise is utterly disingenuous.

PS: To Dr. Goldberg -- nice post. I enjoyed. Now get back to work.

We really ought to put together a reading list for Ugg's reconstituted family.
What do they read then, detective fiction? I suppose they might have enjoyed The Big Sleep or And Then There Were None...
If we clone your family, are they all going to start commenting here as well? I don't want h.sapiens commenters being outnumbered by neanderthals. Oh, wait...
First thing I thought of as well. That was a heartbreaking story.
Agreed. If you listen actively the first time, paying attention for cues when you have body language to assist you, you're way further ahead.
Tony, Tony, Tony. If I remember, back in 2001, you were all "FUCK YOU, I HAVE A RIO DIAMOND. I CAN HOLD 8 SONGS ON IT. LET'S SEE YOU DO THAT ON A FLOPPY DISK." Now you're all negative about it. Next you'll be telling us you don't even listen to those 8 NSYNC songs anymore anyway. It's time to honour your old tech, my friend. Embrace yesterday.
Oh, wait -- also, "four, bare" is the minimum you should expect to see at any good nude beach.
And "for bear" is what honey is. According to Pooh.
Well said. I want a song I hear on Californication, I buy it. I want to see a movie, I buy it. When people ask me why, I say it's because I want the people who made it to get paid.

PS: Sorry to hear about your failed relationships. Also, the bad food. Though, to tell you the truth, that might not come from being a musician. I had a rather foolish first marriage and have also eaten some pretty poor meals, and I'm utterly tone deaf. Anyway, those things suck, as does piracy of your music.

PPS: That "NorwoodIsMyHero" seems like a twit. You should ignore him. Musicians should get paid for their work. Trolls should sit under bridges.

Totally agree on Pirate Radio. My teenage daughter loved it, too.
