<![CDATA[engtech commented on How Good is Genius?]]> If you're having trouble getting started with Genius because you don't want to give the iTunes Music Store your credit card info, I've got some details on how to unlock the "no credit card" option for signing up.

It's in about the middle of this post:

<![CDATA[engtech commented on The Searing Laugh Of Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible]]> If anyone hasn't read Soon I Will Be Invincible, then you really should.

Truly excellent book about being an evil genius, probably one of the best superhero genre books I've read other than the Wildcards series.

<![CDATA[engtech commented on Could You Go Email-Free Once a Week?]]> I've been blog/internet/email free for about 3-4 weeks now. Refreshing.

<![CDATA[engtech commented on Spacemen Vs. Knights Video Game, Now A Dark Movie]]> "The novel that inspired a kick-ass video game is finally getting its own movie version."

Kick-ass game? I found it buggy and unplayable and was quite disappointed after what I'd read about it on io9.

Gamespot agreed with 6.5/10 for critics and 5.5/10 for users.

<![CDATA[engtech commented on Email Etiquette Pages Explain So You Don't Have To]]> I desperately need a "hey dumbass, fix your address book and stop emailing me because you typed the wrong email address about two years ago and guess what? I still don't know you" page.

And I need one to send to webmasters to explain why they should always CONFIRM email addresses when they let people sign up. Lots of idiots use my gmail addresses when signing up for dating sites, and it's really annoying because there's usually no option to delete the account afterwards.

]]>
<![CDATA[engtech commented on Track Your Domino's Pizza Order from a Terminal]]> I often order pizza online via PizzaPizza.ca

Neat trick: if you leave the "order confirmation" window open in Gmail then you will see gmail's javascript countdown of how many minutes until the pizza was ordered, which let's you know if you've hit the "40 minutes or its free" guarantee.

<![CDATA[engtech commented on Get Firefox's Best Features in Internet Explorer]]> My big beef with IE7Pro was that you essentially have to rewrite any greasemonkey script that uses GM_* functions to support IE7Pro.

I don't know why they didn't make it transparent.

<![CDATA[engtech commented on Best Contact Management Applications]]> Ouch for Plaxo.

Those aren't a good number of votes for a company that specializes in contacts management.

<![CDATA[engtech commented on Create or Browse Timelines at Dipity]]> Speaking of Friend Feed, I wrote an app for importing your Twitter contacts into Friend Feed for any twitter users who want to quickly give Friend Feed a try.

<![CDATA[engtech wrote What does this do?]]> <![CDATA[engtech commented on Bypass Password-Protected Feeds with FreeMyFeed]]> DON'T USE THIS FOR GMAIL UNREAD MESSAGES!!!

Once you've publicized a feed it can be picked up by all kinds of search engines.

The general use case for this service is stuff like bug tracking software RSS feeds, your Twitter @reply feed... not something that could contain password/bank account/credit card information like your gmail feed.

]]>
<![CDATA[engtech commented on Track and Search FriendFeed Updates with Alert Thingy]]> For the Firefoxers in the crowd, [ffapps.com] has all of your Greasemonkey goodness for Friend Feed.

I've personally done 9 scripts for it.

re: BTGuard

I wonder how long their service will last passed the first lawsuit? And then will they be forced to give up their entire customer base?

Has anyone from a Canadian ISP been threatened by the industry over BT sharing?

<![CDATA[engtech commented on The Dave Laptop Stand]]> UGH. That's a $50 price tag in Canada.

Someone tell the world that the US dollar is on par with the Canadian dollar, please and thanks.

]]>
<![CDATA[engtech commented on The Dave Laptop Stand]]> Nice, but I need something that would be good for a recumbent bike. Can't have the spike in the middle, needs to be off to a side.

Are their any laptop stands that use something like a vice grip so they can be adjusted to other things?

]]>
<![CDATA[engtech commented on Aggregate Your Online Social Life with FriendFeed]]> I'm a fan. I've been using it for a few months now...

I definitely don't follow *everything* people are up to. But it's pretty good if you restrict yourself to friends with similar interests. I almost always find something interesting within 1-2 pagefuls.

I'm here: [friendfeed.com]

It absolutely kicks ass for comments and discussion around a shared link. It's better than Twitter for replying to Tweets. It's also much easier to comment on FriendFeed than it is to comment on a blog post...

I think once they get the algorithm right for "what you're interested in" then it'll really be a destination.

I'd love it if they implemented something like friendfeed.com/popular the way delicious does.

<![CDATA[engtech commented on The I Am Legend You Didn't Get To See]]> This movie is so screwed up.
