MTV UK is showing this new series "I Hate My Mom" that's similar to "Hotter Than My Daughter" but I haven't paid enough attention to know if it's a UK or US based program.
The bechdel test isn't the end all be all of feminism and female representation on tv. They might be talking about things other than men, relationships and sex, but I wouldn't say they are great characters. They are still primarily stereotypes and I'm getting tired of everyone thinking that just because it's Bechdel passing it's acceptable.
I am a Marilyn Fan, but because I love Some Like It Hot and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (and I have sat through most every other film of hers). However, my friends who say they love her and then haven't seen any thing of hers or just seen one or two of her films drive me crazy. AKA you think she's attractive and like the novelty of 'worshipping' her.
That said, I love Gentlemen Prefer Blondes for Jane Russell and Jack Lemon STEALS Some Like It Hot.
It came out about 3 years ago I think. Not a big release and only in the UK but they did have it on Nickelodeon one time when I was in the States for christmas.
I adore the books, but the movie was meh. Even with Alan Davies as her dad. They made Robbie and Tom twins, rather than Robbie as the older Sex God brother--the actor who played Tom was taller which was just weird, and Robbie (even though he later went on to be Kick-Ass) just isn't worthy of his sex god moniker. Still it was cute, and directed by Gurinda Chadha (Bend it Like Beckham) so it was cute.
Oh and of course they had to change it to perfect snogging as full frontal is just too risque!
Hasn't the Bonnie and Clyde film been in development for like 2 years now? I remember reading a quote from Faye Dunaway being offended that they were a) redoing the story, and b) cast HIlary Duff as Bonnie.
And it's not just Kendall's dress, all the bridesmaids wore them, she just looked the best in it. This is like when I read the thing about Lindsay Lohan trying to upstage Kim, when the invite said everyone had to wear black or white. God, I don't even care about this damn wedding, but the horrific coverage of it is annoying me.
I see it as he makes her into a mermaid because she's got legs during all the torture and the mermaid shows up AFTER those. Clearly, he has a mer-fetish.
I'm with you on the cornfield bits, and the walking on the road. That's all that's necessary. Of course, I'm from kansas, I like a good cornfield romp.
The woman in the video sums up my feelings on it exactly.
The thing is, it started with a reason. It started because of possible wrongful death of a young black man at the hands of the police. I haven't read any final report about it so i refuse to come down on either side, but that was enough to start the riot in Tottenham. That was enough to start riots all over London, it could be enough to start all over England, but the thing is it's not why they are rioting throughout England, and it's not why some jack ass though it would be funny to start a facebook group encouraging a riot in Glasgow (my city). Luckily, many people reported him to the police and he was held for questioning today and the group was stopped. For once it seems the scottish are setting the good example. This has gotten out of hand, and people no longer know WHY people were protesting originally.
That's my point, she could have taught them something other than just lying on the ground (where they would actually probably get hurt even more as they could be trampled. I wasn't necessarily advocating for the girls to tackle back, but hitting the ground and lying there would be more dangerous than moving.
Also, considering they make episodes based around Mercedes being bigger than the other glee girls, having her join in with the rest was silly. She's no Lauren Zizes, but she is bigger than Rachel.
it's really rare for an actor/actress to be nominated for best anything when doing the film in a languge that isn't it's first. It falls into this weird category and gets over looked.
