"To my recollection (I speak as a native Glaswegian) ships (as opposed to boats) are only permitted so far upriver. The second, aerial photograph is aimed upriver, where there are major motorway bridges, which mark the cut-off point; the largest ship around is a paddle steamer now parked next to the Science Centre, which is on the opposite bank to the crane you see in the first picture."
