@Ursus-Veritas: Best audience comment for this preview in the showing I saw came from a sarcastic 6 (or so) year old: "Great, just what we need — a Justin Bieber movie."
@Evil Tortie's Mom: R.O.A.C.H.: Aww, thanks!

I use Officina, though I love a lot of the fonts in the (unrelated) Jukebox collection. I've also used at least one font from Font Diner here before.
Here's a breakdown of the visual representation of the data points:

If you want to know the year the movie came out, look at the color of the dot — the bluest dots are the earliest releases (1950), the reddest dots are the latest (2010), and the purple dots are the years in-between, with bluer being earlier and redder being later.

If you want to know the day of the week the movie came out, the grey and white bands each represent a day of the week (they're labeled on the right hand side of each month).

If you want to know the day of the month the movie came out, look at the numbers on the bottom (underneath those is the day of the week each date corresponds to in 2010). Underneath the numbers and 2010 weekdays is the month that the movies were released.

@WookieLifeDay: I wanted the graph to show as many trends as possible — the year will give you one trend, but release dates and days provide two additional ones to give a bigger picture.

@TSmith If you have any questions on the chart, please let me know! I don't think you're stupid. :)

@mcs328 Not everything comes out on Friday — a lot of movies come out on Wednesdays, and there's actually at least one movie that came out on each day of the week in this chart.
Nice! I totally printed out #3.
@mfaulstone: There actually is one, but it's a little sneaky.
@Charlie Jane Anders @Chip Overclock: Aww, thanks so much!

@ShwetaEspiahi: Actually, if you have a chance to check out the full list of shows we examined — [io9.com] — you'll see quite a lot of those man shows and more. The shows listed on the left hand side are just a selection of some of the various shows we looked at, since having all of the shows in there would be a little crazy for an on-screen graphic.
@Raven: I also wanted it to be as legible as possible in our website layout, and putting time on the y axis allowed for text to be larger at the inline graphic size.
@mothos: Deodorant also totally adds +10 to your 'getting close with the celebs' roll.
Oh, those wacky artists!
At a baseball game, as it was announced there. Does this mean my geek credentials are in jeopardy?
@weendex: Also, skate breaks for canal food! Mmm, beaver tails and hot chocolate.
@Charlie Jane Anders: Indeed, I think we can get something together. :)
Wow everyone, thanks so much for the kudos! You peeps are awesome.

Also, a big hat tip to the amazing Emmett Plant for accuracy checks and extra chart bits. Thanks again for your help!
