I gave up on Caprica a few episodes before the end, so I didn't see some of the Cylon stuff you describe. Maybe if they had go to that sooner, it would have held my interest.

The reason I gave up on it, or any TV show, is I found myself asking "What's going on?" and "Why do I care?" When I couldn't answer those questions, I stopped watching.

It's all well and good to explore the themes you talk about (gay polyamory? I totally missed that) but unless you have compelling characters and an interesting story no one is going to watch. That was Caprica's problem.
Is it really so difficult to conceive of a time when medicine couldn't cure all of the diseases that it can today? Or to imagine a time when many people only only had grade school educations so that messages had to be communicated simply? Or is it just easier to say WTF?
"The thing I was wondering that nobody brought up was, how would Adelaide and her crewmates explain the fact that they were back on Earth safe the same day their base blew up?" If you freeze-frame the last news item (I read all of them) you'll see an item below the main story with the headline "The Mythical Doctor" the lede mentions that the doctor aided the crew in their escape. #doctorwho
@ShiningSquirrel: You didn't read all of it. It was development *and support*.

There's more on this from AppleInsider by the same author.

Looks like the blame for this can be laid at Microsoft's feet. After Microsoft acquired Danger, they pulled a lot of the people supporting Sidekick to work on Microsoft's new mobile platform "Pink". Which Microsoft is now in the process of killing. The full story is here:

Here's the relevant passage:
"The final operator who is going to be pissed is T-Mobile, who has been just as loyal of a partner to Danger as Sharp has been. I don't know exactly what Microsoft has been telling them, but they have no doubt realized that they've been cut out of this deal in favor of their largest competitor. What's worse is that apparently Microsoft has been lying to them this whole time about the amount of resources that they've been putting behind Sidekick development and support (in reality, it was cut down to a handful of people in Palo Alto managing some contractors in Romania, Ukraine, etc.).

"The reason for the deceit wasn't purely to cover up the development of Pink but also because Microsoft could get more money from T-Mobile for their support contract if T-Mobile thought that there were still hundreds of engineers working on the Sidekick platform. As we saw from their recent embarrassment with Sidekick data outages, that has clearly not been the case for some time.

I think the main problem this year is scheduling. Terminator and Dollhouse made a natural pairing. This year, Dollhouse's lead-in is a couple of sitcoms I haven't bothered watching. The people who watch the sitcoms aren't going to stay to watch Dollhouse and the people who watch Dollhouse aren't going to watch the sitcoms. No wonder ratings are down.
Like a lot of things of this type I can't decide whether it's terrible or awesome.
This is exactly why I just suffer through my colds now. I refuse to be made to feel like a criminal just because I'm sick.
How can you count 2 Saturday morning shows, 2 pilots and 1 kids show as "proof". It hardly seems fair. I remember Lois and Clark as being a rather good show. I also remember the Flash as being popular in the fan community, but less so among the general audience.
What I don't understand is why wasn't this data encrypted? The employee and the bank should be brought up on charges for sending personal customer information via unencrypted email. If it had been encrypted there wouldn't have been any problem for anyone.
I think you're being kind of harsh. A lot of these were 70s Saturday morning kids shows and K9 and company only lasted one episode. Blaming these shows for having bad openings is like blaming the neighborhood Little League team for not winning the World Series. Not fair.
@tz: I was going to suggest this. But to use Spinrite on an Mac drive you'd have to take it out and attach it to a PC. Spinrite won't run on Apple hardware. But it only costs $89, which is far less than any data recovery service.
The last time this came up, reader scoosdad had a tip with the numbers to call to opt out of Readyfill and the robocall reminders. Here's the link:
[consumerist.com]

The numbers are 888-470-5534 for Readyfill and 866-514-4965 for the robocall reminders. I used it and haven't bothered since with annoying calls.

Well said. This is exactly what i was thinking after the last episode was over. The only way to continue would be to have a regular series and introduce some new characters for us to care about. CoE worked as a one-off, but if every series is special, then none of them are.
Bank locally! You'll help employ your neighbors and you won't have to put up with stuff like this.
This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. If they don't want to offer a discount, why don't they just cancel the discount instead of doing this? I guess I'm lucky that I'm already getting my discount, because with the meager 5% I get coupled with my low rent plan, it would take 10 months to pay for itself. Hardly seems worth it.
My Saturn is out of warranty, but when all of the local Saturn dealers shut down, I received notices and ads from another GM dealer stating that I had been "assigned" to them for service.
@scoosdad: Thanks for the info. I get the automated reminder calls from them and I find them very annoying. It always seems they're calling when I'm busy with work and if I reject the call, they just call back again.
All of the Saturn dealers here in Kansas City also recently switched to used cars. It really ticked me off because I've never had my car serviced anywhere else and I don't know where to take it now.
Great news! I love Chuck and I can't wait to see where it goes next. A shorter season with fewer writers could be a blessing in disguise. It would allow for tighter, more creatively focused stories.
