It's everywhere and all people do (I am no different) is simply feel bad, offer condolences, pray it doesn't happen to someone they love, etc. when some poor sole commits such a terrible act. The human race will only evolve when we change the basic nature of our everyday existence, morals and beliefs. We've been teetering on the edge for centuries if not millennia and the only thing keeping us going is our 'intelligence', stubbornness and resilience. Human beings are creatures of such bizarre dichotomy: love/hate, life givers/life takers, care/neglect, etc. Most species would be extinct by now if they went through life as we do.
