Have to agree. When the eyecandy effect wore down, and even sometimes during the flic, I was left with a feeling of "been there, done that". And Ripley is still Ripley under whatever name, although in this movie the Big Bad One is friendly, the Turok (Sp?).
Hi Annalee,
What a relief to read your comment in “I09” website and the replies that agree with you. Have to admit I had a struggle not to walk out of this movie after 15 minutes…the dialog was so infantile and insulting to the intelligence. And, YES, I too found AVATAR to be racist You have expressed very much better what I felt and still feel. Art-wise, I became focused on imaging what past movie, of several, the script was plagiarizing. And, Ripley…er, whatever her name is, plain as day played another Alien role but this time without the Big Bad One.
I’ll summarize what I felt at the end:
This movie will spawn still another generation of superiority-minded, adolescent man-boy, help-the-poor-natives, kill-the-fucking-ingrates, simple-thinking, white male chauvinist, cry-mommy-when-they-get-gutshot-in-the-next-generation''s-IraqiVietnamAfghanWar,
racist and above all ugly Americans who's mantra will be once again….”kill em or impregnate em” or “impregnate em then kill em” ….whatever suits one’s fancy..
All in all, bad vibes are still with me 4 days later. And what is so technically special if we have to wear 3-D glasses which is so 20 years ago?
Cheers,
Iastos
