Volume is the worst. On my Mac, even the "lowest" volume setting is often too loud, especially in headphones, where it's just crazy loud for being the "lowest" setting. If you're lucky you can adjust he volume in the individual program you're using via slider (ie. iTunes), but if any sounds kick in from any other program (or just regular old system sounds) they will be, well, really loud. WTF?
Analog volume knobs and sliders from back in the day gave you perfect control over volume. I'm old now :(
@matthewabel: Yeah, you almost get the impression that they knew they were being cancelled, so they did it as a big joke. I don't know the timeline as far as how far along during production the writers knew the show was canned, so maybe that's not the case.
@Justin Wayne: That's where I watched most of the series, but I thought the most recent season wasn't up yet. To be fair, I haven't checked in the past couple months, so maybe I wasted $2.
Alls I know is I was able to catch up on Doctor Who instantly for $0.99 an episode last night on Amazon, instead of buying the episodes for $2.99 from Apple (can't rent BBC shows on Apple yet). It was a rather pleasant experience.
@jackdavinci: Exactly. Google are killing net neutrality whilst dressing up their plan as net neutrality itself, and it will work, because the vast majority of the population doesn't understand what the words "net neutrality" mean. Thus, they are willing to take Google's word for what it means and accept it, because they heard somewhere that net neutrality was good, whatever it is.
I tried explaining the concept of net neutrality to my mom earlier this year and her eyes glazed over after about 30 seconds, after which she cut me off and said more or less, "I don't care." If that's the attitude of most people, what's to stop Google and Verizon?
And with the current wave of anti-government paranoia, it's a really easy sell to say "The big scary FCC are trying to take over the internet (that you use to talk to your grandkids on Facebook)! Don't grant them the authority to enforce net neutrality!" It's a perfect storm of ignorance.
Q: What if Law and Order was a science fiction show?
A: Then I would watch Law and Order.
I hope some TV exec is viewing this post and greenlighting this show NOW. A law/crime drama in a city populated with aliens, robots, monsters and weirdos? Television gold! But it would have to have the tongue-in-cheek self-awareness of True Blood to work.
@HidingInCanada: I agree with you - she was one of my favorite characters in the first season, and now she just gets beat up, figuratively and literally. That would be fine if her character ever had some sort of redemption, but she never gets a minute to breathe. I really hope they're going somewhere with her storyline.
@coffee milk: Actually, before Beck launched into his tirade about Michelle's attire, he tried to convince Bill that Barack is dangerous because he uses "black liberation theology" in his speeches. You can't make this stuff up.
I watched Primer after hearing all about it from some friends, but after watching it, I just couldn't see what they were seeing in it. Then a few years later I watched Timecrimes, and I said, "OH, this is the movie they thought they were watching!" To me, Timecrimes is Primer done right. So yeah, sign me up for Extraterrestre.
I had been planning on seeing this on Saturday, as a fan of the series, but when I saw the 5% tomatometer I cancelled my plans. However, after reading this review I really want to see it - for completely different reasons...
