I hate it when standards aren't. "epub" is supposed to be the universal ebook standard. Hah! The software I used to output the epub file has several "profiles" for end user devices. I have always used the generic output profile to achieve maximum comparability. Sadly, I've been able to reproduce the Stanza problem with our current pruduction build of the Windupgirl Epub file. I'm testing a "kindle" profile right now on various platforms to see if that will generate a file that has more universal compatibility (and actually work on Stanza). Once we settle on a new epub "profile" we will resend the new version of the epub file, which will hopefully work "out of box" on a wider range of devices. This is why I let retailers sell ebooks. I don't want to be a Q&A engineer, I want to be an editor and publisher. Sigh. Thanks for your patience, everyone, and your enthusiasm for the book.
Big Agro-business maximizes its customer base in The Windup Girl by purposefully releasing blights that destroy food crops. Only their patented GM, single generation seed crops are resistant to these blights. This practice might be... shall we say... amoral. But it IS a logical way of maximizing ones profits in a future libertarian "utopia" where there is no government restraint or regulation of these businesses.
