Much of what you read is bs. When it comes to VFX that percentage is notably higher. I'd say about 90% of the things in articles and interviews about vfx are completely ridiculous fabrications. Some sites are better than others. That thread on cgtalk came to the conclusion that it was pointless to speculate. CgSociety's forums are not intended as an accurate overview of the field. fxguide is a bit better, but interviewees are not always the most forthcoming people. Eriah, I read that article too, and it made me laugh.
Ever worked on a show? Then you have no idea what you're talking about. You have no idea what costs are and Stargate did not do that. WETA charges whatever they charge because WETA does good work on time and employs hundreds of people. I can personally guarantee no one is ridiculously overcharging. Its called a budget for a reason. And birds are not cold blooded. The dinosaurs on this show are not reptiles, they're dinosaurs.
I second this post, its not a WWII-era plane. Being wrong about it makes all the news outlets that say this look lazy and ignorant. Such is the way of things. It's news, not some story you're telling your co-workers at lunch. Do some simple research and get it right.
The better question is why you're saving to jpg in the first place. Non-lossy compression at 8 bits? No thanks. .png is just a far better overall file type.
Do I need to bring up the mouse? That Apple stole from Xerox? This Apple ass-kissing has to stop. Is this article just an attempt to get the readership riled up and hurling insults? Perhaps so hopefully the companies in question see the comments and finally understand how actual people (i.e. not tech writers with a hard on for Apple) really feel? I can't fathom another explanation for the obvious wrongheadedness and blatant ass-kissing of this article and a few others that have recently appeared here.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Apple should absolutely not buy the best source of great free network entertainment on the internet and make it a walled-off proprietary crap-fest that you have to buy overpriced specialized hardware and/or install crappy software to use properly. What have you guys been smoking? A thousand times NO. If you can't make streaming work at home maybe you should put down the mouse and go outside. Reading step-by step instructions and figuring it out for yourself is too much work? This computer stuff is too hard for you then. For the life of me I cannot understand how this much love and faith get piled on a corporation. They're not saving lives they're making money. Your money.
I'll move to a budget carrier like Virgin Mobile or MetroPCS before I get 'moved' to AT&T. Decent phone be damned, I can still get something with android.
He didn't do it. It led to that. That's never been the same as doing it. Devices and information don't act on their own. There's an anarchists cookbook out there on the web. If you make homemade fireworks and blow your hand off is it the fault of the person who uploaded it ? Networks are not secure.
What the hell man? He goes to prison (prison!) for putting information on modifying a product he bought and owns on the internet? How does that = piracy. Is it piracy when I put how to mod my car on the internet? How about when I tell others how to modify their toaster and alarm clock to make delicious toast when they wake up? Insecure network environment? Seriously is anyone just now worried about that? Nothing's secure! How long have you been using a computer? And that's what it is; a computer. With ports so only Sony can tell you what you can plug into it. Not only that but it's Sony. The company that ignored people hacking Final Fantasy accounts for months if not years? And now they, in collusion with an elected government, want to tell you what you can do with the stuff you own and who you can tell about it? That's bullshit. I could see if he broke into a network with the intent to get credit card numbers or some other kinda shenanigans. But this is people having their freedom taken away for modifying a product they own and telling others how to do it if they want. Did he steal it? No. Did he throw it at someone with the intent to hurt them? No. Really, I fail to see where a crime against humanity was committed here. Ridiculous.
