I really had to fight the urge to include the whole story/song here. It would have made for an awkward workshop. #observationdeck
I've been working from home for 3 years and it's both awesome and awful. (I sure as hell wouldn't give up chocolate for it but moving cross country and keeping my job was a matter of keeping my mom safe.)

Awesome:
Not having to deal with coworker/office distractions
No change in benefits or salary
10 ft. commute
Being able to keep Criminal Minds on the background

Awful:
The severe carpal tunnel I've developed including back, wrist, and shoulder pain
Not enough snacks
Depending on Skype as your primary phone line
Erratic hours (the company is on the west coast and I am on the east)
Having to constantly over-perform to remind your boss and co-workers that you exist and are awesome

Walda Jeffers had reached her limit. It was now Mid-August which meant she had
been separated from Marshall for more than two months. Two months, and all she had
to show was three dog-eared letters and two very expensive long-distance phone
calls. True, when school had ended and he'd returned to Wisconsin, and she to
Locust, Pennsylvania, he had sworn to maintain a certain fidelity. He would
date occasionally, but merely as amusement. He would remain faithful.
(Sorry! I couldn't resist re-purposing the Velvet Underground's "The Gift" for this challenge. I was feeling a little Kathy Acker.)

I also bleed bobby pins! The boyfriend makes things a little less exciting than in years past but day trips happen.
Is that a new actor playing Bran? Maybe it's the angle but he looks less Brannish (aka less like the kid from The Shining and more like the actress playing Arya.) Either way, I'm excited!
I have underwear, socks, toothbrush, wipes, and eyeliner in my messenger bag at all times in case of sexy sleepovers. It's not a walk of shame if I feel so fresh and so clean!
It's a raver term from the 90's/2000's -- Peace, Love, Unity, Respect -- that was popular with candy ravers. I coffcoff read this in a book about coffcoff rave culture, not from first hand sweet rave experience.

I think I misread it... I took the quote to mean that they would be "breaking" the original story to create this new one. Which made my heart sink.
Thanks for clearing it up.
Reddit is kind of what you make of it. It can be a fun site and you can tailor it to your interests in a way where you can avoid most of what sucks there (i.e. I like having low blood pressure so I subscribe to r/books and r/TwoChromosomes and r/ASOIAF and avoid places like r/mensrights and r/religion.)

"[We're] trying to break the back of the story" -- this sums up very well why I think a BladeRunner reboot.sequel.anything is a bad idea. The story is great, the original film (in whatever version you prefer - I go for original issue Director's Cut with no voiceover personally) is great and nothing needs to be broken.
I think in urban areas, people are spoiled for choice. I was in the Bay Area where there were tons and tons of users whereas in the South, the pool is smaller and more specialized. I'm glad you had luck on Craigslist.

Finding my significant otter was a crapshoot online though (timing and state of mind had much to do with it.) I think judging from both of our internet habits now and the overlap of some interests, we would have met online eventually. There are only so many people in 100 mile radius of me who even know who Morrissey is.

A one off date from OKC once referred to his experience contacting to women on there as "hand writing beautiful and thoughtful postcards then throwing them down a steep well, hoping someone will find one."

It worked out for me eventually though(after a cross country move to a much smaller area, I got lucky.)

To answer the rhetorical title, often "None."
When I was active on OKC, I got a lot of messages from guys based solely on the fact that I was online at that given moment (more so than guys who had looked at my picture, let alone read the profile.) It was just the sheer fact that I was available in service of some kind of instant gratification.
At least that's how I explain the pro-life evangelical types who always turned up.
I've had this article open in my browser for a few days -- it's good but slow going. I love Kubrick but have a hard time buying some of the theories Ager is putting forward simply because Kubrick was adapting a story and not writing one from scratch. It just seems like a reach that there are that many underlying subplots.*

*I reserve the right to revise this opinion in 2 weeks when I finish the article.

Who cares if someone asked a celebrity a Glenn Beck rape satire style question? You answered basically no questions on your AMA, Adrian; stop casting stones.
That's good to hear -- I ended House of the Devil creeped out but with the chuckles. I'm looking forward to seeing this more after your comment.
I second that. I wrote him a letter after he got blurbed in Jane (RIP) and he sent me a handwritten note and a copy of Slow Jamz. I'm glad to hear someone talented and nice is getting rewarded.
I'm definitely going to watch this because The House of the Devil was phenomenal (up to the ending which has become an inter-friend meme.) I was bummed to read in another comment that the ending in this film is also abrupt and disappointing but I'll be watching it anyways.
I second this emotion. No ghost house movies for me anymore.
Veronica Mars just made my night. That was ridiculously cute. #observationdeck
