Yeah I agree, although I thought this episode was a bit better than the week before. I watched the first episode of the 80s version again and realised how tight and well scripted it was. The difference between these two is that the journalist is the investigator, rather than the FBI agent. It makes such a difference because the original played on the idea of media control and paranoia so much more. It also came at a time when there were still people who remembered the holocaust. (And plus, you find out they're lizards in the first episode. Talk about a slow build in the new series.)
It feels like some tame scriptwriting - whatever happened to kill your darlings. I love stories that aren't afraid of making the hard decisions for their characters. I just wish these freedom fighters would have to make more difficult decisions. They're not going to save the world without making some sacrifices.
I am so glad to see someone else pick up on the Castle joke. I nearly peed my pants when he came out dressed as a space cowboy (and then his daughter says "You were that five years ago"). Man I miss firefly.
Does anyone think that Uther Doul from the Scar (China Mieville) is way more swashbuckling than Jack Half-A-Prayer?
Here's why: He's got a frikin awesome sword that connects to his body. He also lives on a giant collection of floating ships. He's also brooding, mysterious and got a cool cool name. Isn't that the definition of swashbuckling?
