<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Doctor Who And The Dumb Girls Who Are Dumb OK]]> Ok so on Sunday I listened to the commentary on this episode on bbc3 by Steven Moffat, Russell T davies and David Tennant which was quite interesting and explained a lot in between the who was the best borusa argument and details of the upcoming Nimon/Bandril war in season 5.
For example in the original script the person that donna fell in love with would turn out to be a fat girl because people can look like whoever they wanted to in the hard drive world, or that river song wasn't in the original plot description which merely concerned the library and the vashta narada, or that despite having a reputation for scary stories there are very few actual deaths in an SM story, or that the american actress playing anita went to the same drama school as DT.
Personally I liked it it made sense at the end with less plotholes than cloverfield (anybody who complains about the idea of putting people in hard drive (stolen from the next gen episode Relics I think) should watch C and wonder how they evacuated New York in a couple of hours with no bridges or transport).
Fave line was the doctors accidently "Everything" to Donnas "what does that say about me".

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Bloody Sexy New G.I. Joe Pics]]> So river Song is Romana, well at least nobody has yet suggested that Rose is Romana and that is why he fell for her, and why not start a rumour that Mickey is actually Davros reborn and K9 was kidnapped and rebuilt by Cybermen.

Still dont give a flying monkey about Lost

In a movie about giant robots that turn into cars ssurely a factory called entrance exit is the least unbelievable thing

I can still remember when books were advertised as being from the publishers of the novelisation of Star wars (you tell that to kids today they just don't believe you)

Gi Joe is there a scene where for no reason the baroness decides to wear a full facwe gas mask and we all resalise why all the characters were leather/pvc head to toe.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Doomed Android Love Story On Infinite Repeat]]> Didn't i read somewhere that she had denied that it was Sf in the same way that Rowling denies thst HP is fantasy.
Plus there is the fact that nobody has mentioned yet that the author is herself gay so is more likely to write about gay characters than would a hetero author.
Its still crap in that way all Sf done by Literate authors tend to be I mean I can't be the only one who read The Road by CMC and preferred The Postman or The stand.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Doctor Who's New Girlfriend GIves Good Phone]]> Heres the plot explained:
the sontarans are a warrior race losing the battle with the rutans so they need a newe clone army without the rutans finding out and stopping them, so they hatch a plan, they find a small world that tey have visited before and has defeated them and decide to take revenge by destroying it without giving them a chance, so they contact a scientist and offer him the chance to have his own planet to rule, all he has to do is ensure that sontaran terraformers are distributed to every corner of rthe world. But he makes a mistake and the first test arouses the interest of Unit who dedcide to take action setting up teir base in the factory where the sontarans have control which is according to plan because the gas they are releasing can be destroyed by fire if used in the correct way so they arrange to have the worlds armaments controlled by a base where they have an agent stopping it from happening, the only thing they couldn't control was the doctor who had experience of terraforming and realised that any terraforming device could be used to distribute anything across the whole planet, after saving the day he knew he had to destroy the sontarans but after the time war he was reluctant to commit mass murder so had to bluff them, would he have used the weapon we don't know we never had the chance to find out because of the human factor and the sacrifice of one man.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Failure of the Planet of the Apes Hypothesis]]> Assumption 1: there is no evidence that there have ever been any intelligent species before man. Actually this is true if you believe that every ancient astronauat theorists is a kook and there3fore making up their evidence, also there are mysteries like the trilobite sandal that show the remote possibility of previous intelligence.
Assumption 2: the odds of intelligent life re occuring are so high that it is impossible to re occur. This is only true for small ampunts of attempts, if across the universe and time 50 billion attempts by worlds to create life happen then the chances of 2 worlds having intelligence life decreases by so much it becomes inevitable, to use rthe example most often used by dumb scientists the odds of winning the lottery might be 12 million to one for each individual person but when 20 million attempt it then someon will win.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on A Laptop From 1893]]> Actually I can top that. in the story Other Worlds by Cyrano de Bergerac in about 1650 there is this description:

When I opened a box, I found inside something made of metal, somewhat like our clocks, full of an endless number of little springs and tiny machines. It was indeed a book, but it was a miraculous one that had no pages or printed letters. It was a book to be read not with eyes but with ears. When anyone wants to read, he winds up the machine with a large number of keys of all kinds. Then he turns the indicator to the chapter he wants to listen to. As though from the mouth of a person or a musical instrument come all the distinct and different sounds that the upper-class Moon-beings use in their language.

When I thought about this marvelous way of making books, I was no longer surprised that the young people of that country know more at the age of sixteen or eighteen than the greybeards of our world. They can read as soon as they can talk and are never at a loss for reading material. In their rooms, on walks, in town, during voyages, on foot or on horseback, they can have thirty books in their pockets or hanging on the pommels of their saddles. They need only wind a spring to hear one or more chapters or a whole book, if they wish. Thus you always have with you all the great men, both living and dead, who speak to you in their own voices.

The gifts occupied me for more than an hour. Finally I attached the books to my ears as pendants and went for a walk in town

thus making it a very early podcast/ipod/walkman.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Will Steven Spielberg Eviscerate "Ghost in the Shell"?]]> Maybe we should all wait and see, he could suddenly find himself back in the days of Jaws and Duel when he was really great, maybe Jamie Moss will suddenly become the greatest scriptwriter around, a william Goldman for this generation, maybe They will go acting wise for people who can bring the characters to life as they are in the original anime and manga rather than going for who is hot this week, maybe they will get it exactly right and have such a big hit that faithfully copying anime becomes the next big thing and all those movies escape development hell.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Seven Signs of the Rise of Fan Glam]]> Personally I have never found that being told I look like Peter Jackson has done anything for my love life, although I did once meet a woman in a supermarket who told me that her sister (who I had met once) had my picture on her fridge for a year.
I also have an genuine ewok which is embarrassing for a guy in his 30s to admit i admit.
And what about Geekdar where you can spot a real geek across a crowded room, example when i went to see transformers (at the worlds tallest cinema apparently) in the elevator someone spontaneously mentioned about how she had spent years waiting for this to happen somehow knowing i would grok it.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Guess Who's Back On Heroes Next Year!]]> Just rerad the synopsises of both the comic (on Wikipedia) and the movie and they could be of two different stories, it feels to me that itt is just one rewrite (to change the names and first ten minutes) away from an original movie, and who on earth reads "all the world's super-villains decided to band together in 1986 and use their vast collective powers - including mad science, magic and mind control - to eliminate all the world's superheroes and rewrite reality in their own dark image" and thinks that "this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself". Twats.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Morgan Freeman Is The Obi-Wan Of Gun-Fu]]> before i saw the trailer i would have put this as the flop of the year because it bears so little resemblance to the comic that they are advertising it as being from, but now well it might be a big hit. As long as they are prepared for every review in every scifi and comic mag to start with the complaint that it bears no relation to the comic that it is based on.
My main worry is the fact that it might just be too cool visuals without any bother to worry about a script, after all the comic was so good that changing so much the writers will have to justify every change.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Is The End Near For David Tennant On Doctor Who?]]> I wont believe any rumours about david Tennant leaving until his dad tells the Paisley daily Express about it, which is the local paper which generally has up to sdate news from the families of DT and Paolo Nuttini and anyone else famous from Paisley.
And I cant quite see them getting rid of half the cast of Torchwood they would be as well creating a new series as doing that especially if they are adding MArtha to the mix.

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Doctor Who And Torchwood May Interbreed]]> Having seen last nights Torchwood featuring Martha Jones I can say that it could actually work. She fitted perfectly into the world of Torchwood, Owen Flirted with her, gwen chatted about being the only two women in the world Jack hasn't (does this mean he and tosh?) etc, although curiously The Doctor was never specifically mentioned.
It would definetely be interesting to have them both meet, and remember Tosh did appear in Doctor Who before (Aliens of London)

<![CDATA[kevinjwoods commented on Buddhist Kung-Fu Cops Fight Crime in 2012 London]]> And here is a quick review.
Actually quite good, it actually looks like a comic book for a change, none of that ultra realism that you usually get in comic book translations, it does suffer from the curse of origin stories leaving the third act to have the actual plot but it was a lot more well fun than i expected.
The Feebles themselves are great creations, and because they are done by prosthetics we get to see a lot of them, Whitey Action looks good in hotpants and has fun with the role, and terry phoo is good a the kung phoo, especially the shaolin wedgie.
Good Bits:
Whiteys initial reaction to the magic hotpants, simply having the room filled with stuff was a brilliant idea, especially her reaction to pulling a giant easter egg.
Terry Phoos cupboard, i know obvious gag but still funny.
Carl weathers playing basketball with the feebles head
The bouncers wearing mexican wrestler masks, always good
Bad points:
All the posh characters (Harry Wills lady Antonia) were so far beyond caricature it bordered on cant be arsed

ON the whole I seriously hope it gets to a full series, roll on the competition (next week its a drama about a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost sharing a flat)
