Annalee, you could take a day off a week if you gave me a photo that beautiful.
@corpore-metal: I think what is most interesting about Starship Troopers is how much a realized libertarian state /feels/ like a fascist one, if if, as you both said, it clearly isn't.

And as one of those crazy liberals, it does bother me that the way to gain citizenship is such a marshal one. Why can't dedication to other fields that build a society merit national inclusion, instead of just those defending, or fighting for it?

I love this book cover.
I understand how an author can miss something important like this, but I'm still a little disappointed about it. When there are a finite number of cylons, and so much speculation about them and their origins, how could they've missed that adding a whole new one would throw us for a loop?
@PVIII: Yeah, that "Wes visits the FIre Island-Planet" episode was thoroughly mediocre.
The problem with science is that it necessarily has no delimiting factor for it's existence but exploration. The notion that Science Fiction could act as a sort of ex post facto leader is fascinating and something I hadn't really given any credence to before. Thanks for pointing us to this Charlie Jane.
Oh. Wow. She might make me finally tune in to Dr. Who.
It's nice to hear any evidence of increased probability of et life. Thanks CJ.
That's a low-down dirty shame, because Gosling is effing hott.
@WeHopeItsFunny: Because someone hates you, does not mean you should hide.
Poor Tricia. If this goes on any longer, pray for her scalp.
Okay, I'll be the one to say it. The production design of Star Trek sucks. It started as a necessity of the paltry tv budgets, but then they had to maintain a continuity. The screens look okay; it's the Trek thats the problem.
"Star Wars is forever, and you can suck it Roger."
Has anyone read the book "Everything Bad is Good for You?" The basic premise is that recording technologies are making our media more complex, because the best shows improve upon further watchings (and hence sell more DVDs) Apparently it's making us all smarter. It's all about lateral thinking people. It's like synchronic exercise.
Don't get me wrong, there's literally nothing wrong with a pot-luck. But I can think of nothing I would rather do less than spend Valentines Day across the table from a whole bunch of my friends making out with their partners.
From Whamo, via HammacherSchlemmer?!
Who in the alpha quadrant wants to be a Bolian?! "Crewman Dumpy-Loser, please report to the bridge."
"the Russia Trip" episode was totally absurd.
I won't say that it was a good episode--because it wasn't. But like a few others have already touched on the animation was terriffic. I think as much criticism as the plot and writing are getting (and it's all well deserved) it should be getting at least as much praise for the animation. Go back and watch the first episode. The outdoor textures were terrible. Now they blend into the background, which is just what they're supposed to do. The narrative confines of the final battle were crippling, but the choreography was beautiful.

Now why can't the plot and visuals get together in the same episode?
