So I just now got around to watching the MSF. I've been dodging recaps and spoilers like they were walkers for the past week, and maybe reveling in that accomplishment tinted my glasses a bit when I watched this, but I thought it was an above average episode with an amazing ending. Having not seen the 2.5 preview nor the Talking Dead where Kirkman explains that Otis is the zombie herder, my assumption was that Sophia came across the farm at night and unsure of whether it was occupied or not, got into the barn somehow and met her first untimely demise there. Either way, many more questions are raised about what Hershel and his Hershleyans knew and when they knew it...

If they knew Sophia was in the barn but believed that Walkers could be cured, why didn't they explain it all to the Grimericans? Because they knew deep down inside the Walkers were lost but couldn't bring themselves to Shanerize (like sterilizing, but with shotguns) the barn themselves? If the guys had got their snared Walkers into the barn, Rick was going to see Sophia anyway, right? (Also, I don't care about Hillbilly Hand-Fishin', but I'd watch Hillbilly Zombie-Snarin' for sure.)

Also, I have to disagree with the statement in the review that there should be a feeling of impending death around the farm constantly. The Hersheleyans have been there for awhile, if the place was under constant siege from Walkers, they wouldn't stay, would they? They've stayed at the farm specifically because it's been relatively untouched post-collapse of society. It's why they are naive to the new reality.

Now the question is how far off the deep end with Rick go - the relative quiet of farm life and the hopes of finding Sophia saw him let his guard down and relax, but when both of those dreams were shattered, Rick showed why he's the de facto boss by killing Sophia (again) when none of the others could or would do the deed.
Or has he become more stable with prolonged separation from Merle combined with associating with people he previously, I would assume, avoided - Glen, T-Dog, etc.
Daryl is, far and away, the best character on the show - which makes me wonder why he isn't running things? Ironically, he's the one guy that none of the other survivors would probably associate with pre-apocalypse, but he's arguably the one indispensable guy. He's got the best-suited weapon as it's quiet and has reusable ammo, his survival and backwoods knowledge surpasses everyone else combined, at this point it basically seems like Rick is the de facto leader because he showed up in uniform. If I'm in the group and a power struggle breaks out between the two of them, I'm on Daryl's side.
I've been a fan of his since his role as a middle-management jerk in In Good Company, glad to see him in the Marvel flicks and this...
I'm going with a panoply of zombies.

Now for the random thoughts:

As for the zombies in the church, I wondered about a conditioned response type behavior. Have they learned that humans came when the bells tolled? Are they retaining residual memory/subconscious that keeps them there? Did they just happen to die and morph there and unlike the walkers, they're sitters? Or was it just convenient for the scene?

Anyone catch what the button the "Opt-out" in the tent was wearing said?

Favorite part of the church scene was the "Bikers Welcome!" sign.

Who is the actress that plays Carol? Do you think that she has "If you can't get Jamie Lee Curtis, I'm available?" on the back of her headshots?

It occurred to me last night that the first place I would head in a zombie apocalypse would be a huge theme park. I'm assuming that in the early days of a ZA, authorities would shut them down to prevent a mass spread of infection in a huge crowd, and there's nice high walls/fences, plenty of food, underground areas, etc. No place is perfectly safe, but I'd wager you'd be pretty good for awhile in Disney
I was just thinking that this picture was crying out to be the subject of an open caption thread
If you're going to make a joke of the voice actor for Batman, at least cast Danny Pudi, DC.
I also wonder how much of it is a desire to see groups of powerful people with different beliefs, ideals, etc learn to work together for the common good, something we don't get to see from our own leaders anymore.
Does this mean that there will be little plastic EA flags under all the seats for meetings?
1. Say BAMF!
2. Run to the other side of the room.
3. Repeat step 1.
I totally got your sarcasm from the jump :) It's always fun to tell my students on the first day of class this year that every single thing I'm going to teach them this year could be wrong. Totally blows their mind...
It was announced that it would be the final season of Chuck when the renewal announcement went out. Since it airs before Grimm, I'll at least be in front of the tube when Grimm comes on. In which of the alternate universes does Awake have a spot in the schedule?
Starting to understand what Skynet and the Matrix were so grumpy about...
I don't think Breckin Meyer counts. It's not like he was acting...I'm pretty sure they found him on set after a typical midweek afternoon in the Meyerverse and just went with it.
