I just have a hard time seeing Bardem being that "into" shoots involving lots of FX, greenscreen, creatures in costume, etc. while Mortensen has ample experience with all of those.

I still think that Viggo Mortensen would have been the better choice. Bardem, while an awesome actor, just doesn't seem that interested in genre stuff.

IRON MAN was in on-and-off development for years. I remember hearing about Tom Cruise possibly playing Tony Stark back in the early '90s. It was only a matter of time.
There is absolutely no chance they'll ditch Thor, Cap, Hulk, or Iron Man for a sequel. I can imagine introducing a few different longstanding members (or popular B-listers) like Wasp, Giant-Man, Ant-Man, Vision, Black Panther, etc. but there's no way they'll lose the big four.
If it's Zack Snyder, I'm sure it'll be tastefully done and underplayed.

White Wolf has been trying to get a movie going for years, and when "Underworld" came out, they felt that it damaged their ability to do that. I believe they also objected to the first Blade film, which borrowed pretty heavily from their vampire mythos with all of the representatives of the different vampire clans.
