@Dexomega: You know, a lot has been written about 2010 vs 2011, movie-wise, but I think there's going to be a lot of awesome TV in 2011, as well!
Absolutely amazing post! Thanks so much for putting this together!

2010 was the most disappointing year for movies that I can remember - thank goodness for Chris Nolan & 'Inception'!. I see several entries that have the potential to redeem 2011 - for some reason 'Cowboys & Aliens' is the one that has me most genuinely excited, so far.

"alien monsters on pogo sticks"

That just made my day! LOL!
YES! OMG!! SQUEE!!!!!

CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!
@nbd9000: The Cat In The Fez! LOL!
@crosis101: LOL! I think there is one shot where the shadow of a plane is visible. And yes, it does look suspiciously similar to shots in Dr Strangelove! But I'd have to re-watch the film to be sure.
Hey, I've got an idea! How about a science fiction novel about how the human race is suffering a crisis of self-esteem brought about by relying on religion and morality based on religious ideas far too long after they have served any actual usefulness in our evolution?
Hmph. Science that "proves" Original Sin? That's reason enough to be suspicious right there. What's next? Global warming?
@n3onkn1ght: Well, if you count the footage shot for the Stargate sequence, yes, there were shots taken in Monument Valley & heavily processed for use in the film. I believe some was shot in places like Iceland as well.
@n3onkn1ght: Most of it was shot at MGM Studios in Boreham Wood.

A camera crew was sent to Africa to shoot footage for the "Dawn of Man" sequence - some shots were used as background plates for the front-projection set-up on-stage.

And one famous scene was shot just outside the studio: parts of the scene where Moonwatcher discovers how to use a bone as a weapon were shot outdoors from a low angle - by Kubrick himself - and intercut with stage footage & the slo-mo of the falling tapir.
Reminds me that a reviewer once claimed there were people who'd watch "2001" no matter how long it was.

I agree this footage should not be put back in but I wouldn't mind seeing what Kubrick cut out.

Definitely looking forward to Trumbull's doc!
Okay: Great headline! I'd love to tweet this! BUT yeah the videos are screwed up.
Hmmm . . . glowing reviews on Amazon . . . but will it ever be out on Blu-ray? Or Netflix Instant?
GREAT clip! Terrific atmosphere - yes, I laughed at the clapping - then an alien writing a message with his own acidic body fluids? Wow.

Yeah, I might have to check this out.
