Oh wait - you mean the article is for people whom want to just press a button - my mistake! I thought you were saying that my setup was for people who just want to push a button.
Speaking of which, there are actually a couple machines (long since discontinued I am afraid, and thus not really appropriate for the article) that did an awesome job brewing coffee, but they are unfortunately no longer around. Chief among these was the Melitta Clarity (which looks like a Technivorm knock off almost, but prettier), but there as an even earlier machine which has to earn the prize for tallest coffee maker that makes the least coffee ever - the Capresso Aroma Classic. I'll attach a picture.
Neither of course have a thermal carafe, so it is critical to transfer the coffee as soon as it is brewed.
And I certainly do understand that there are likely MANY people whom have never heard of Tim Schaefer.
I would bet that you are right, in that if there were a fan funded Mega Man release, it would probably top this - but it wouldn't be something that I would invest in personally.
As in your example, you could have a $100 Billion company with revenues of 5 billion a year, that grows at 5% every year, and that would be less attractive to Wall Street than a company that is worth 30 million, with revenues of 15 million, but not making a profit, but was growing at 20% per year. Ridiculous. No one cares about investing in the company - it is all about the per share price and how much you can make when it goes up.
