@djwudi: Thank you for the followup from Anthony Pascale and TrekMovie.com. This is the difference between journalism and blogging. Bloggers repeat what other people say. Journalists ask them why they said it.
@Batmanuel wrote: "Since Torchwood was charted by Queen Victoria to protect england, I'm not sure how a US version would work unless they totally changed the backstory."
Absolutely! Torchwood is a British show with British roots. It can't translate, it shouldn't translate. You can set a show about aliens and a time rift in America, but that doesn't make it Torchwood.
Anyone who thinks FOX could do justice to any story from the Who-verse needs to see what they did to the Whedon-verse (i.e. Firefly, Dollhouse).
@Eridani: I thought TimeCop (the series) was an interesting spin on the film. But it failed to engage people with a "wow" factor every week.
Unless you're a big fan of alternate history, it's difficult to understand the subtle nuances of changing time. There are only so many times you can have the South win the Civil War or the Nazis win WWII. Anything more subtle than that is not understood by the general population.
As someone who hasn't purchased the DVD set, I would hope that FOX plans to air "Epitaph One" as a lead-in to "Epitaph Two." Otherwise, why would I bother to watch?
This is what's wrong with the current television model. The viewing public is sick of being told what to watch and when to watch it.
Thanks to DVRs and Tivo, we now control when we watch shows.
The next step is to move away from broadcasting and step up to a menu-driven a la carte selection. Want to watch reruns of Babylon 5? No problem. Select it from the menu. You hate wrestling? No problem. You never have to see it.
The future of media entertainment is not network driven. It's search driven. Say goodbye to networks and say hello to media content providers. #syfy
@matthewabel: My first inclination was to suggest the ubiquitous Freddie Highmore (Charlie from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"). But he's already 17 -- much older than Billy's age of 12.
I'd probably hold a cattle call and hope for an unknown who has the acting chops to pull it off. The last thing this film needs is another Jake "Young Anakin" Lloyd. #shazam
I love the idea of including The Rock in a Shazam movie, but he should be playing Black Adam, not Captain Marvel. The best person for that role would be Patrick Warburton.
@ManchuCandidate: "It's about networks run by MBAs and accountants who don't get the creative process."
Truth.
I hope there is a bit of subtext in the new series, but I also don't want them to hit us over the head with it. There can be a message without being overt.
In Kenneth Johnson's awful novel "V: The Second Generation," the Nazi overtones were replaced by a more subtle jab at the post-9/11 mentality that security is more essential than personal liberty. I'd like to see the new series address how our freedom and privacy are being co-opted every day. #v
Sadly, this is a Twilight Zone-ish, short story concept. I don't see how it can be sustained for an entire feature film unless they change the twist (which isn't a twist for those who know Matheson's work). #thebox
Hmmm... I guess I watched a different show.
The Being Human that I watched was slow-paced, dull and hardly interesting. The only sub-plot that held any interest for me was seeing Annie discover how she died. Sadly, that too was predictable.
I'm not saying that I want Syfy to remake it. God forbid! I'm just saying that the original didn't strike me as worthy of being remade. #beinghuman
