So I have to comment since I worked on finishing and tuning the microwave interferometer for the LDX. (With Alex Boxer, mentioned at the end of that article.) It's funny that I found about this article through io9 :). What I think the most interesting part of the idea for the LDX experiment is that there are two different fuel sources for this type of reaction. They could use a reaction that only uses heavy hydrogen but this would produce significantly less energy than the reaction used in tokamaks. The other choice is to use Helium-3 which is great except for unfortunate fact the it is only available ON THE MOON.
